The mess that Eric Holder will be inheriting

And what a mess it is...

1) Bushevik, Bradley Schlozman, and the mess at the DoJ:

"Schlozman deserves a dubious award, for undermining people’s faith in the law"

Holder's promising remark to the Schlozman mess:

Let's hope that Holder conclusion is different from the one formed by the prosecutors in the US attorney's office in D.C. Of course, those attorneys were hired by Schlozman based on the fact that they would support the "team" no matter what. Go figure, they let the man that hired them off the hook.

2) Torture: Writing a memo that says that a given interrogation technique is not illegal does not overrule the law which states that it is illegal. Thank God someone can say so in a clear and precise manner once again.

Now, what will he do about it given that many people are on record for having authorized the use of torture? Maybe Obama is having the dinner in honor of McCain, who also opposes Guantanamo and the use of torture, to appeal to him for his support if this goes forward. My fingers are crossed.

"I can't believe DOJ would ever take into account political beliefs or party affiliation". Yeah, RIGHT!

3) Ignoring the rule of law: What in the hell are we doing holding individuals indefinitely in a prison in Cuba with a questionable human rights record?

Sloop: with respect to the politicization of the DoJ, I absolutely agree. It has been going on a long time and by both parties. From what I know, Reagan did it. Bush Sr. did it. Clinton did it. And Jr. did it. Still, that does not excuse Schlozman's actions or his perjury in front of the committee.

I'm sure there is plenty to go around, but not to this magnitude, with blatant disregard for The Constitution, treaties, and The Geneva Convention.

They are scurrying around in the closing days trying to reposition some of these political hacks into secure career positions (based on the same political beliefs and party affiliation. In the clsong days of the administration they have written 30,000 pages of executive orders that would have to be reviewed, to possibly reverse them, in the first 60 days of the new administration.

But, of course, they didn’t invent all these scurrilous practices, but perjury is a whole other matter.

If I remember, a former AG might soon have his day in court also.

You are nothing short of amazing. Do you want to compare a few questionable pardons to the authorization of torture. What did pardoning Marc Rich do to our standing in the world? Oh yeah, nothing. What has the use of torture and Guantanamo rightfully done to our image throughout the world? Oh yeah, it has severely damaged our credibility and brought us down into the sewer. The terrorists won. We became our enemy.

Besides, it did not matter what Holder said about Rich, he would have been pardoned by Clinton regardless of Holder's opinion on the matter. He also would have likely been pardoned by any other president, Republican or Democrat. First, several Republican lawyers argued that Rich had not violated tax laws. And his role in Iran and Iraq partially had to do with his work with the Mossad, which was responsible for gathering information and rescuing Jews from those countries. Top Israeli officials were lobbying for the pardon. This of course, coincided with Clinton's efforts to secure a peace agreement between Palestine and Israel. Therefore, Rich was likely used as a bargaining chip. I am not saying that it was the right decision, but it was a more complex decision than most people realize. That does not excuse any of them...Holder, Clinton, the Republican lawyers that defended Rich, or the powerful Israelis both here and abroad. They are all probably worthy of criticism.

Well, there are degrees of criminality (and I am not sure that Holder could be classified as a criminal; however, Bush and Cheney can be described as criminals because the admittedly broke the law). Sorry, authorizing torture is pretty huge in my book. It is epically shameful.

I was just listening to Rush Mush Limbaugh on H & C;
He's right!
Liberal dems are ALWAYS ANGRY.

Can we count the times over the past 6 months that you have said 'I am angry'?

You guys are always cracking me up. Hell, here you are doing it again. Rush Limbaugh saying Liberals are always angry, that is hilarious. And you not seeing the irony in that statement is also funny as all get out.
