I just took the day off of PBH yesterday - self imposed. We went the whole day without saying much to each other. Then last night we had a little chat, and she apologized. She asked me if we could talk; I sure wasn't going to make the first move as far as re-establishing contact. If I F-up, I am never too proud to apologize and admit I am wrong. But this time, it was definitely her turn.

Not that excused her irrational anger on New Years, but I have figured out the causes I think. #1) She has apparently become extremely self conscious over not learning English quicker. That along with a couple of other challenges. So, she was worried that I thought she was stupid, unintelligent, whatever. And that of course doesn't mean she really thinks that is what I think of her - it means that is what she was starting to believe in her own mind. (Psych 101)

#2) First holiday season away from the family.

I don't think the atom bomb that was New Year's Eve for me can be blamed on her being a barrio girl from Colombia. New Year's Eve '99/'00 was worse, and that girl was a white chick.

In separate incidents, I have had a bar stool thrown at me in my own home by my at the time "live-in" pycha, er ... girl friend, been stuck with a $5500 car pay-off by an ex, had a vibrator thrown at me, but it missed and went into the wall, and lots of other neat stuff like being stalked. So, based on previous experience, I guess this wasn't too bad. jajajaja

I have to get ready for my big new job selling appliances at Sears. Not as glamorous as cleaning toilets, but it hopefully will be a living for a while. I'll be on later this evening. Robert

At least you tried to explain, but there are lots and lots of latinos in Montreal, more than in Toronto, and many are exactly like how you describe of the New Yorkers (which means that your assumption is wrong about them all being different), and you can bet your bottom dollar I have had mixed 'success', but obviously the mixed implies some success among the Colombian population, not that i try and quantify these things.

Along with GIB, I still don't precisely see what makes New York completely different from every other major urban centre in the developed world, seems far-fetched to me, and I will have to experience it to believe it, having never come close to such an experience in the rest of the world.

John S. We live in Miramar Beach, FL. It is in the panhandle, and the general area is referred to as 'Destin'. Lots of rich folks, and lots of military. From March to August - tourists. But, VERY boring compared to Villavo. Here, you can't just decide at 11pm to go to 7 de Agosto and party 'till 4am. I figured and planned on that being an issue. I warned her that this area was beautiful, clean, whatever - and very quiet before she moved here. I told her there was no Aguapanelas, Kuarzo, Los Capachos, etc. I told her you can't just walk out the front door, chit chat with 3 neighbors on your way to walk a 1/2 block for a broaster chicken and a 10 mil Moviestar card. So I totally appreciate how and why she is homesick. Hell, I am, and that aint' my home.

Language issue Catgirl? ... not normally. But New Year's Eve night, I couldn't understand what the hell she was saying. I do know I was called an HP and the word mierda was used constantly. First time I ever heard her even say those words ... let alone in a rage! But the Spanish was rapid fire ... and I didn't even bother trying to justify it with a response. I just tuned it out and walked off.

GS, the bar-stool was the worst. My at the time ex who had refused to move out decided that I shouldn't be talking on my phone in my own bedroom. She flipped out, and I went to "leave the scene" by going down the stairs. Next thing I know, a F-ing bar-stool leg hits me in the elbow, misses my head barely, and crushes in the staircase wall. My elbow looked like I had a golf ball under my skin. I took pictures of it. I think it might have been fractured, but I never went to the doctor. But every now and then, I'll put pressure against it just right, and it is excruciating.

But they are people like CEOs from Atlanta and Birmingham. We have a lot of sports stars and other celebs who live here in south Walton Co. and Destin. Sheryl Crow, Britney Spears has a place, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and probably 3 dozen sports guys. I don't know their names. Oh ya, and that guy from M.A.S.H. who does that financial show on CNN. Iceland is not 11 hours from New York City. From JFK, it is probably 4 or 5 hours. Put it this way: It takes 8 or 9 hours to get to Frankfurt, Germany from New York. Iceland is more or less half way there. It is a common layover stop for flights between Chicago, New York, and Detroit to other major European cities. Iceland is an easy flight. Just enough time for a movie and about 4 beers.

If you look at a globe of the world, measure the distance (with a string) from a point in the US to a point in Europe, going straight "like the crow flies". Then, from the same point, make a north eastern arc to Iceland and then a south eastern arc down to the European point. The second string will be about a third shorter. So, flights from the US to Europe generally go over New Foundland, Nova Scotia, then southern Greenland, miss Iceland barely, and come back down over the islands north of Great Britain and Ireland.
