for folks with active cell phones in the united states...take note

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.

REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON .. It takes about 20 seconds

This urban legend has been floating around since 2004:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp

But a real scam is: http://www.ucan.org/blog/telecommunications/landline/800_301_7195_876_....

This seems to be an updated version of a scam from the 80s or 90s when digital pagers would display an innocent looking number. When the call was returned it was rerouted to the Caribbean, resulting in a huge charge on the phone bill (about $70, as I recall).

Seems that some people think "everybody's outa step but me".

It was St. Kitts where most of the calls were routed at the time. Kids would see an add on TV to talk to girls and call a number which looked like a US number. 555-555-5555 and then would talk dirty to some island chick for a few hours and then the cell phone bill would come in with whopping charges.
