Truth about Venezuela travel

I am in Cucuta, Colombia and I am thinking about flying out of Venezuela to the U.S. but all I hear are horror stories about Venezuela, the same as I did when I came to Colombia. I would like to know how "bad" or not it would be. I speak very little spanish.

I live in Colombia and have traveled a fair amount. I went to Margarita Islands and Caracas last June with my Colombian wife. Margarita Islands were ok. Got harassed at a checkpoint, but no big deal. Caracas is another story. I have never felt so unsafe or unwanted anywhere in the world, I knew they didn’t like Americans, but they seemed to like Colombians even less. On the street, people we asked for directions would just turn and walk away. On one occasion we were refused service in a restaurant. Don’t bother going to Caracas.

Venezuela is not set up for tourism, or is as organized in anyway, as Colombia.

Yes it is a bit scary.
