Arriving, booking flights, storing luggage with limited time.

I haven’t booked any flights or tours yet, because would like to know what to expect.

I’m considering going to Venezuela on a Continental Air flight, arriving at 5:20 am. How long does it usually take to get luggage & go thru immigration?
Is it possible to catch an 8:30am Los Roques flight out the same day thru the national airport? (I know they are next to each other)
Would you advise purchasing the Los Roques ticket prior to arriving in VZ or morning of departure?
I will probably have a medium backpack for Los Roques and a larger suitcase I’d prefer to leave on the mainland due to charges for overweight luggage. Is there a safe place to stow luggage at or near the airport?

No place to store luggage unless you are staying at a major hotel on way back and can convince them to hold at concierge. I have taken this flight into Caracas many times..it is my preferred flight and airline to come in on. If all goes well you should be able to make your connection as you will have 3.5 hours. I have personally never been delayed in customs or immigration but I know others have. That real early flight brings you in before almost everyone including the workers for immigrations. The bigger delay can be baggage it can take for ever in Caracas. I fly with status on continental so my bags come off first and I have still waited an hour or more to get them. If you fly without flier status not sure how long it would take. I am not sure that I would rely on having a flight available to los roques morning of even on large domestic flights in Venezuela they are many times booked full in advance. The disadvantage of booking in advance you will pay to official exchange rate. You will pay half or less if you change money for the street rate and pay in cash. The domestic check in area can be a disaster so get there as quick as you can.

Ultimately, we decided to book a tour and do it after our work assignment to relieve the stress. Thanks for your answer Conchale.
