Anybody travel with their guitar? I brought my guitar on a trip (just a one week resort visit) and it was such a pain to lug around in the hard case. A gig bag would have been better but I'd be too freaked out bringing my guitar on the flight without a hard case.
Any suggestions?

That being said, I'm an airport baggage handler, and I can tell you a few things. For one, 99% of airlines or flights, won't let you take them on board, there just isn't the room for them. I've seen some flights let them on, when others wouldn't on the same airline, so it's a crapshoot. The best option is the hard case, despite it being unfriendly to lug, and to check it in. The fragile belt does its job at the airport, and while we aren't the friendliest, it'll be fine in a hard case. The soft case does it's job decently, but won't work as well, and if you "gate check" or "gate deliver" (whereby it'll be up on the gate waiting for you upon arrival) there's a good chance it'll get tossed into the plane (if it's a narrowbody aircraft). No matter where you go, the Korean tour bus isn't far behind. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

What about if I put it in the soft case and bubble wrap the hell out of it and plaster fragile stickers on it? Give me your honest opinion. Best quote of the week... drvannostren says on Nov 2, 2008, 12:33: bubble wrap should usually do the trick as long as there's no exposed spots cuz they'll be subject to knicks and bumps, the only need for fragile stickers is if it's a bag and not obvious like a guitar. As a side note to anyone reading this it's really easy to pack liquor in your bag just put it right in the middle between all your clothes keep it away from the edges of the bag and away from hard stuff No matter where you go, the Korean tour bus isn't far behind. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

I'm such a geek, whenever I go somewhere one of my missions is always to check out the local music stores....hahaha. I never buy anything, it's just a comfort thing. Best quote of the week...
