Hi, your first choice of friend, Douglas, is highly commendable; a long term member who loves this place and somebody I hope to meet when he manages to pop back to his second home. A guy of wisdom who also has quite alternative views on things! Knows far more about this place than I will ever know apart from possibly the language in which I may be able to compete-according to him anyway-but he can be a gent when he wants to be!
Also, glad to add you to my list, and thanks for adding me to yours so to speak; who would have thought of meeting on this forum a person from "Planet Thanet" as they call it! Roots are important!
Cheers,
Ken
PS, I do not usually spend this much time on the computer/internet but after a minor health problem, I have been ordered to take it easy for a while. If I have to sit on my arse, then I prefer to sit and try to be constructive in some way rather than vegetate!

Thanks for the friend invite it would be an honour so you are an Alan too? Are you from Kent ,been down there a few times Margate in the late 80's wrote one of my bikes off on the way (Puncture then it went up in flames on the A1 ) some bits of it are on the bike in my profile.
My dad spent a lot of time in Maidstone in his youth & raved about the place (he was a sailor) .
Your travel profile is almost a copy of mine.
So have you gone back to England?
All the best Alan.

Good picture of Ramsgate Harbour. Spent many hours there in my youth; fishing mainly.
Now it contributes a lot to the vibrant feel of the sea-front area, with all those bars.
Do ferries run from Ramsgate to France again yet? Very useful for the "duty-free" shopping trip in the old days without having to make the dreaded trip to Dover first.

Better than nothing I suppose!
Any ideas over how long it takes and the return fare?
Re-orientated yourself yet?
For some reason, when I travel to England now I do not suffer like you did. Probably because I am on "a high" when I go, ie something positive and I arrive in better spirits. The difference between a holiday and the return to the brutal realities of life, like work.
