The Arepa comments on Motorcycle buying advice and moto/driver's license info

I bought a 200cc United Motors motorcycle in 2008 (motocross/scrambler style) which is ironically from China for 4.9 million pesos. It was brand new with warranty and at 12,500 km it is humming like new. I've traveled all around the country with it as well.

The Arepa comments on Women in Medellin....a woman's perspective.

Dusty, Good call. Funny you mention the Señorita Paisa thing. We've decided to permanently cut that section out, trying to merge philosophy with image. It was cheesy and we came to the same realization. The idea behind it was to show off the clothing from local designers. It is now being replaced with a three photo section on fashion, the focus being more on the fashion and photography, rather than "the girl." We are taking form, please excuse the gaps while we are under construction. jajaja There will probably remain a discrepancy however just as there are in most magazine. I remember reading an issue of Rolling Stone once with a personal account of one girl recovering from being date raped, and on the very next page Brittney Spears soaking in body oil with ripped daisy dukes. Um, yeah that's a disconnect. Clyde, Making money...that is the dream of it, we'll see how it goes. Sorry bout the bad comments before.

The Arepa comments on Women in Medellin....a woman's perspective.

Good point. Watch out, another friend of mine from here in Medellin wrote an accompanying article for the magazine entitled, "Men in Medellin...a man's perspective." Seriously!

The Arepa comments on Women in Medellin....a woman's perspective.

Yeah but not as far as Argentina, Chile......woman president in Colombia?

The Arepa comments on Women in Medellin....a woman's perspective.

Groundbreaking and earth shattering, no. But, my thinking was that it is new, different, and cool in the fact that it was voiced by a Colombian women, coming from a culture that has not come as far as many other countries regarding women's rights.

The Arepa comments on Medellin, Colombia WiFi Locations

Great work. Thanks. Of course, I love working on my laptop at the Exito.

The Arepa comments on How do I politely decline food I don't want?

Whatever you do don't say "No gracias, no me gusta comer este," without even a follow-up explanation. I once said that and the family got so uncomfortable. Great question. You really hit on a delicate social issue and I enjoy the posts on this one.

The Arepa comments on Super Sexy Tango Show in Medellin (Video)

Yeah I hear ya'. This show would have set you back a whopping $15.

The Arepa comments on Video: A wild night in Medellin. House party

Hmmmm that's possible.... we did do the Skid Row interview: http://www.thearepa.com/videos/backstage-with-skid-row-in-medellin/

The Arepa comments on Video: A wild night in Medellin. House party

I know huh? It was a gift...and it has since been destroyed! hahaha

The Arepa comments on Intense Hip Hop from Medellin’s barrios: Video

Two other hip hop videos, and another in the works. Not experts, just out there having fun. Enjoy! Video 1: http://www.thearepa.com/medellin-guide-culture-nightlife/video-hip-hop-in-medellin/ Video 2: http://www.thearepa.com/medellin-guide-culture-nightlife/video-hip-hop-in-medellin/

The Arepa comments on Medellin: Huge party, no slugs. Saturday.

roccatanski. Awesome! Love it!

The Arepa comments on Medellin: Huge party, no slugs. Saturday.

Oh, and the slug remark. That was a mistake....I don't know where that came from. Damn interns!

The Arepa comments on Medellin: Huge party, no slugs. Saturday.

"he's trying to create a niche in a single culture society and make a profit; pretty tough to do." We disagree on this point, Paisa culture is not a single culture. Take for example the 9 bands we interviewed, everything from rock, rap, jazz, metal, pop. All these "sub-cultures" have their own "niche" spots to hang out in. We are trying to promote the diversity of events and people in the city, like any other magazine, AND in English. Lleras does have advertising dollars yes but we are branding the magazine in a way that does not include your Ozs and Mangos of Medellin. AS for the content we do try very hard to keep it bigger than just Lleras and feel we do a decent job at that. Thanks everyone!

The Arepa comments on Medellin: Huge party, no slugs. Saturday.

The party was great, I hope some of you made it. I will put up a video in the next couple of days. As for the comments, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the semi-dress code, or more the type of place Cuchitril is, so that everyone felt comfortable and not overdressed or out of place. Thanks again to everyone. Robin

The Arepa comments on Medellin: Huge party, no slugs. Saturday.

Slugs are weird old creepy dudes that hang around 18 year olds. Yeah, we don't want that. Cuchitril is on Calle 10 next to the airport.

The Arepa comments on Medellin video with sexy singer - Vivi

Nope, I was the only US born in the room. Vivi, the stylist is a semi-typical example of an upper class Paisa who has lived in London or New York for awhile and speaks perfect English.

The Arepa comments on Medellin Beer House

With the Hard Rock Cafe scheduled to open in August of 2010 in Medellin it will add some serious competition to the Med. Beer House!!!

The Arepa comments on .a.+

Sorry guys, I don't know how to delete the post.

The Arepa comments on Shoe problem.

I am size 13 and I made a post about how it is impossible to get big shoes here. In the end, after visiting every single mall, I had mine shipped from the states. The centro comercial "El Diamante" next to the stadium "estadio" had size 12s. But check out the post: http://medellinliving.com/travel-blog/the-small-feet-of-medellin/

The Arepa comments on what is bombomboncito???

If you have already gotten laid, then it is a wonderful term of endearment. If you just met, then that's cute too. If you have been out on a few dates already and nothing has happened, then it is something nice to say to string you along. Robin

The Arepa comments on Used Motos CRAZY expensive!!!

When you get here hit me up and I will tell you where the used moto markets are here in Medellin. They are crazy cheap, but you have to jump in and shop around in the two big used motorcycle sections of town. Robin

The Arepa comments on Medellin idea, makes sense?

Try the Dry Martini Lounge on Avenida Poblado. It is in the "estrada" plaza where the Burger King is. Really upscale, nice couches, more adult. Very Cool! Robin

The Arepa comments on Meet the next smoking hot Senorita Paisa - Vivi

sanandressi: In regards to your bread and the magazine... It's called a dollar, and it goes to support local, independent media, in English.

The Arepa comments on Next sail boat departure Cartagena-Panama in January

I did the trip last year and it was $250. FYI

The Arepa comments on An English documentary on Plan Colombia and the US access to Colombian bases

What does that mean? Have you watched the film? In comparison to CNN and MSNBC I think they are headed in the right track.

The Arepa comments on Wicked New Year's Eve party in Medellin (video)

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Here are a few follow ups. The biggest drug consumption I have seen at the "hard-techno" parties here in Medellin is with "poppers." (Something like super-strength industrial glue in a bottle and everyone goes around huffing it). People huffing is pretty hard to miss so maybe that's why I have seen it so much. njc... As for the narrator being "off", I went to the party solo. So before I met up with my friends I was feeling a little out of place being the only gringo. It was your classic last minute directions for an all night event by invitation only. After a Red Bull I was charged for the night. Drugs are bad...I love my brain. spigrimace... And lastly, yes it was in Belen. You probably know already that January in Spanish is "enero" so...Belen enero = Belenero.

The Arepa comments on do all good schools in Bogota ask for teaching certificates?

My two cents...In my experience yes. I found it rare to find a place, even down to the rinky-dink language "institute" being run out of a garage, that did not ask for credentials. I think they use it as a filter since there are a lot of people looking to teach English.

The Arepa comments on See you all in Medellin....

Don't forget to pick up a copy of the only all english magazine...and all about Medellin - Cool! Where to get it: http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/post/where-you-can-get-the-arepa-magazine/

The Arepa comments on Where you can get The Arepa magazine

Kenblanquito. I do not live in Poblado. In fact on the contrary. And yes with the motorcycle I hustle around a lot. And I really work hard to ensure the magazine lives up to it's name "Medellin's guide to culture..." and not Poblado's guide. You can now add Palm Tree and Hostal Medellin to the list in case you are in the Estadio/Americas area. Peter. Subscriptions as of yet, no. Maybe soon. LeBon is like the go-to place that the whole world knows, yet I am trying to get it everywhere. Also add Boookstore in EAFIT to the list now too!

The Arepa comments on Medellin Hostel: Casa Del Sol or Palm Tree?

Location of Casa del Sol is not ideal. It is quite far and the barrio is really residential. I'll throw in a word about Hostal Medellin, feels like a home, close to the metro, close to the cool barrio Carlos E Restrepo, and a short bus/walk to el centro.

The Arepa comments on Where you can get The Arepa magazine

Ken - Don't worry, we are growing. I don't know if we will ever have a spot in Estadio, but Carlos E. is on the short list. Also we are talking with a lot of bookstores so we may soon be in all the librerias. The closest spot to Estadio will be the clothing stores in laureles....close to the Juan Valez, or in the ColAmericano downtown. Thanks so much!

The Arepa comments on Good steak in Medellin?

I have lived here for a year and the place I go for steaks is "La Parrallita" in Poblado. It is lcoated along the "Gourmet Row" where the Pastas Con Amor is located, on the strip south of Parque Poblado. We are not talking 40,000 steaks. The owner's goal are steaks in the style of Argentina but for around 8 to 10,000. Amazing and addictive. My first pick.

The Arepa comments on Medellin Help

While you are here check out the only English magazine in the country called The Arepa. We cover the cultural stories about what's up in the city. It is kinda like the city guide where the guide books stop. Check it out online at: http://www.thearepa.com Or you can get a hard copy of the magazine in Medellin for 2,00 pesos. Check out LeBon Cafe, iStore, Franchyes, Colombo Americano(s), the big hostels, Tinto Tintero, the MAMM museum, or the 24-7 market in Lleras to pick up the magazine.

The Arepa comments on Chocquibtown

We just did an interview with them in this month's issue of the magazine The Arepa. We met with them in their apartment in Bogota and they are super friendly. You can check out the interview here: http://www.thearepa.com/?p=755 Or see the whole issue here: http://www.thearepa.com/?p=806 Or you can get a hard copy of the magazine in Medellin for 2,00 pesos. Check out LeBon Cafe, iStore, Franchyes, Colombo Americano(s), the big hostels, Tinto Tintero, the MAMM museum, or the 24-7 market in Lleras to pick up the magazine. Thanks!

The Arepa comments on dentists in medellin

I would most highly recommend Artica in Medellin. Dr. Juan Mejia speaks excellent English, his clinic exceeds the standards of the States, and the prices are competitively rated (in comparison to the states, that means a bargain!) Phone: 448-4847 email: juancarlos at une.net.co web: www.clinicaartica.com

The Arepa comments on Paid section on PBH?

and for what? Gossip? Trolls?

The Arepa comments on Sunday Night!!

Hey. Arepa Magazine. That's me. I will be there with all my friends of The Arepa! I've also invited tons of girls to have our informal casting call for the next Señorita Paisa. Well, not to mention I love positive deep house music too! Oooh it will be delicious. Thanks JGprime!

The Arepa comments on Apt for rent in Poblado until Aug. 19th. $20/day

The Arepa comments on Apt for rent in Poblado until Aug. 19th. $20/day

Wow you guys spend a lot of time on PBH!

The Arepa comments on The Arepa - June issue available now. Party this Wed. at Melodie lounge.

The magazine is more about paisa culture and what is happening in the city then it is about bozo-gringo guides. The readers are mostly well-educated paisas who enjoy the international perspectives. So ease off on the "gringo" talk...you won't find that word once in the magazine.

The Arepa comments on D&B in Medellin

The new club Spazio 44 in Barrio Colombia has electronica on Fridays. Carnival starts around midnight...not 3:30 am. The scene is dark techo and lots of cocaine. La Kasa is in las palmas and has great electronica and house. Kukamakara has live rock and cross over...and it is in Barrio Colombia. De Ja Vu - is reggaeton. Forum has int'l DJs but the int'l scene dropped Drum and Bass about 4 years ago...sorry. Blue is crossover/rock and is gringo-town! ZZZZzzzzz...... Zona Rosa Bello has hardcore techno...but it is far and the crowd is YOUNG.

The Arepa comments on The Arepa - June issue available now. Party this Wed. at Melodie lounge.

yeah but Medelleños rolls so much better.
