Land in Bangkok or get the hell out?

Hey all,
what's the quickest way of getting out of Bangkok when your flight lands there, without making the whole trip much more tiring? I don't particularly want to spend my first few days in Bangkok, rather in some relaxed place, but I don't want to make a really long local trip after a gruelling flight either.

Any ideas?

take one more quick trip to phuket (1 hour). i believe they are all daytime departures though.

* if you have to stay the night (or two), i recommend the federal hotel. nothing special, but priced right at $30-40 USD a night. they have internet as well as a nice pool to relax by. their cheeseburger is one of the better burgers around that area.

you can get a taxi in the airport to take you straight to hua hin and relax - takes about 2.5/3 hours drive.

Your probably already finished with your trip, but maybe someone else ..

Depends on which you want, culture or beach. Cha am is closer than Hua Hin, and a bit less crowded. Ayuttaya is 75 km due north of BKK and has some neat ruins and great temples.

You can find apartments and serviced apartments in BKK for US$ 200, but they aren't all that great. If you go looking, check around the subway and skytrain stations .. saves on taxi fares.

Come on Peter....tell us what you did on your trip!

It looks like I'll be in Thailand in January. I now have to decide where to go on vacation after work is done. Probably a beach. I like mine quiet with very few kids, good spa nearby where I could get a daily massage. I could use some suggestions.
