How safe is it when it's off Mindanao? Mindanao is considered by most to be pretty dangerous - kidnappings, hijackings, terrorist activity. My company won't even let us travel there.

I stayed on Palawan at a resort in June. Absolutely beautiful. Very relaxing, very safe. I would go there again in a heartbeat.

Kinda sounds like you hear about Colombia. My friends wife is from Mindanao and according to her its not that bad. Only a few areas that are bad

Spent 4 weeks in Camiguin in 2007 & about died of boredom. Cheesy hotel & expensive eats. Very few tourists & those that were there were mostly Europeans. Black "sand" beaches & really pretty sunsets. Not especially friendly locals, even though the island has been largely insulated from the tourist onslaught. Cheap internet. Very safe. Hardly any infrastructure, so many inconveniences. Mostly a rural fishing island.

One week would have been better. It also would have been better if the beaches had been more accessible (good ones were mostly taken up with lodges fronting them) or more accommodating for laying out, lazing, etc. Not really enjoyable for that purpose. Loved viewing the underground cemetery though.

Just trying to be real.
