Hi teelac... I am considering going there... but is it expensive?

Actually I want to know as much as possible... for example, did you hire the services of a travel agency? if so, would you mind telling me the name? is there any hotel downtown that you strongly recommend?

Thank you!

I could also give info on Cuzco and MP.

Is it expensive? It certainly can be. TACA offers a "cheap" flight from Lima to Cuzco at 5:40 am, $150 for North Americans. Peruvians seem to get cheaper flights. The usual prices is $350 at other times, so the early flights can sell out.

I have done the 4 day hike into MP, with porters and cooks and camping. It is not cheap. Trains in the Sacred Valley are also pricey. Googling Andean Web Travel will get you lots of other good info. There are many good hostals in Cuzco, and many expensive hotels. De Pronto, PM me if you have specific questions.

I booked Lima-Cusco-Lima 2 weeks ago for only $156 RT on Star Peru. Took a lot of stumbling around though to find them. They were mentioned in Lonely Planet along with Aerocondor (now shut down by Peruvian Govt. due to safety concerns).

Star Peru was not in the typical search engines though. I had to book using their site and in Spanish since English link kinda funked up but ok since I know basic/int. Espanol.

If I stayed with my original plans (Lima-Trujillo-Cusco-Lima) I would of got a great deal with LAN for their 3-leg airpass since I fly in on them from the states. But since I decided to cut out Trujillo for this trip and focus on Lima/Machu Pichu I only wanted the one ticket and lucked out. I did a web search on Star Peru to see if I could find any safety problems and came up empty handed. Hopefully that is true!

They use an older fleet of 737s (1982 vintage).
