miami55 comments on Learning PORTUGUESE from SPANISH-- anybody done this? Its not really like that, its just more of a matter that when i dont know something in portguese i throw spanish in my sentences instead of putting an english word in. I have an easy time switching through the languages without a problem, and they sound very different when speaking!!

miami55 comments on Mail Forwarding DHL and FedEx cost 88 dollars, is there anything that is reliable and cheaper?

miami55 comments on Mail Forwarding I just have to send my application in an envelope. 3 pages for the app, 1 page for the passport scan, letter or rec, and 2 essays. I just wanted to make sure it got there in a respectable amount of time. Last time I sent a christmas card to medellín it arrived as an easter card.

miami55 comments on Understanding Colombianas It seems weird that people here are classifying colombian women as bad for what all women do. How many relationships really end well in USA or Colombia? They usually end for a reason - be it the guy or girl. To me, a lot of these posts seem to be from guys that aren't used to dating above average girls in the USA and then come to Colombia and find someone above average and are in out of their league in the first place. You guys are giving woman advice about "colombianas" but in reality its just general information about dealing with any type of woman. Its not easy finding a good relationship anywhere, thats why you date until you find the right one..Dating over the internet and thinking you found "the right one" is only going to lead to problems... if you want to date a colombian.. live in Colombia. "My colombiana left me for another guy.. colombianas are bad" Maybe they just got bored that the only words in spanish that you say are chica, colombiana and novia?

miami55 comments on Visa Question! Some of these comments are flat out ridiculous. but thank you everyone that had something useful to say! Gator thanks for the information, they really like to know a lot of info.. its gonna look bad when it says jobless student! hahahah for the record you guys if you didn't read.. i am 22 years old and she is 21.. she's not my girlfriend right now seeing how i am in USA. if she was truly desperate enough for a visa or money she'd be hangin out at mangos or whever most of you guys hang out for your prepagos. Oh, gator to add! I'm in the USA right now, but we're planning the trip to USA after I am back in Colombia. I'm going to be back there for a year to study and she's at the same university. So at the time of the trip I will be in Colombia. Would that help the case?

miami55 comments on lodging in Bogota for Nov 10 I didn't pay an exit tax when I left Colombia either. Why bother getting a cell phone in Bogotá, it sounds like a waste! There are people with cell phones for calls on literally every corner of the street and if you want to call international you can go to the one of many calling centers. If you do decide on a cell(for whatever reason that might be), go with Movistar. I used Comcel but most of my friends said that if you want to call international ur better off with Movistar. What is a cheap hotel to you? There's a LOT of different parts to bogotá but i'd definitely recommend looking in in Centro, Zona Rosa is kind of boring !

miami55 comments on Visa Question! its scary how hard it is! and here i thought if she was visiting with me for christmas they would understand. haha neither of us have money!! that probably can't help too much either =p I thought maybe if they saw we were both students at UdeA they would see we're obviously returning. Why is it so hard for a tourist visa? Is it really because they are worried of people overstaying their welcome?

miami55 comments on The Days Before the Gringo Invassion What I noticed is that most Colombians think that americans come to look for prepagos because they themselves just figure its normal too :P I dont think its so much a reputation thing as it is just how they talk. Plus I mean, if you meet a guy for a friend, what better thing to talk about than women? I never saw americans during my time in Colombia, only if I decided to stay in a hostel. Plus if they asked if I came to Colombia for the women, I happily responded that I'm from Miami and if I can get laid by a latina every time I go to South Beach :P It would be rough on my ego to know I had to travel to a new country just to pay a girl to get laid!!

miami55 comments on Thinking about moving to Medellin??? hey don't take time off of school. My advice would be to go to medellín and study there! apply to one of the universities , they are extremely cheap! You could also take out a student loan to pay for everything so you wouldnt have to worry about working and paying for everything ... the wages in colombia are nothing like they are here in the states. I was making more money working at menards (home depot of the midwest) when i was 18 than the parents of most of my friends and they have degrees!!!

miami55 comments on reliable taxi drivers in Bogota I never had a problem at the bogotá airport and i went back and forth from that damn place 10 times. i never once had a problem hailing a taxi. just go to the window and get some slips... it makes things easier because the taxi driver will stop and do it for you if you don't (it is typically a higer fare ) don't worry about taxis you'll be just fine.

miami55 comments on "No me jodas" native speaker help it is actually "joder" you can say no joda to use it in usted or no jodas to use it in tu. both are the same meaning.. that is like saying don't fuckin bother me. you don't want to use that with most people in colombia.. especially as an american. joder has different meanings in different countries =p you are best to say "no me molestes

miami55 comments on Tone Loc, you are really serious? I thought it was just a joke because of that guy from Medellín

|
miami55 comments on I know three people who have visited Cartagena and said it was one of the best times of their life. Why would you travel to a place like Colombia if you are going to worry about something like a street vendor? Sure it could get annoying at times, but if you are going to make such a fuss about this you shouldn't be going to a 3rd world country.

miami55 comments on What's up with the rise in crime in Medellín? ahahhahah, is it only like that in medellín or will it be like that in all of the cities?

|
miami55 comments on What's up with the rise in crime in Medellín? I'm sure I will ! I can't wait to go. I'm not saying I understand women.. they are all nuts in my eyes.. i'm not really too worried about if an ex girlfriend is still into me or not. she's moving to spain =p Plus hey, i wanna have my fun and not worry about one girl ;)
|
|
miami55 comments on What's up with the rise in crime in Medellín? "she's just not that into you " for that she's going to bogotá for me... i'm not naive .. I know what to expec with her. Naive is going to Colombia and finding a cute prepago who tells me she loves me and marrying her. Or going to some latina dating website and thinking they are looking for true love. I've said it a million times i'm not going for her, i'm going because of everything she told me about medellín and how wonderful it is and I became very interested in the city.

miami55 comments on What's up with the rise in crime in Medellín? It's not that I'm paranoid, I'm actually quite calm.. but this is where I go to get my information about the crime and everything I should know with my travel :P

|
miami55 comments on What's up with the rise in crime in Medellín? Why does everybody automatically assume such bad things about a girl I dated here? She was an amazing girl and for the record I got her drunk for the first time. Just because so many people go to Colombia looking for prepagos doesn't mean every colombian girl is a prepago. It disgusts me how you assume such horrible things of such a great person. Even funnier that she is the one who offers ME money. It does seem to be that other people at least agree with her to a point, and yes she is very protective, and for that reason I asked my question on here to see what kind of dangers I would most likely see if I went to Medellín.
