MaFe comments on am i missing something, or is english no longer the national tongue in america? "The research also showed that English-language assimilation patterns were similar to other immigrant groups in the U.S. Hispanic immigrants speak mostly Spanish, while their adult children who were born in the U.S. have a firm grip of both English and Spanish. Meanwhile, third-generation Hispanics speak English as their Spanish begins to fade away. 'Certainly our numbers show that Spanish is not dominant by the third generation – it's seldom used,' said D'Vera Cohn, a co-author of the study and senior writer at Pew Hispanic Research Center...Of adult first-generation Hispanics, only 23 percent say they can carry a conversation in English very well. That share rises sharply to 88 percent among second-generation adults and to 94 percent among the third and higher generations." http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/news/2007/11/29/pew_says_age_education... MaFe: that may very well be; however, it would be extremely uncommon. There may be some factors - given the location of the town - that would result in such a phenomenon. There are several thick indigenous accents displayed by native speakers of English, why should we expect non-Native speakers to speak without an accent (most of my second/third generation friends have no discernible accent)? === Graet points LC...but my friend is American born in Texas...barely speaks English...I have no critism with non-English speakers who learn English with an accent...I have respect for them since English is my third tongue...(but not the bobas that get out of their countries & forget they are Latinas...that was a rant) ------------------------------- Man Tequila says on Jul 14, 2009, 11:10 (today): flag The pizza paranoia is a little overdone, no? mmmmmmmmmmmm Pizza...

MaFe comments on so there i was in "virgin teritory" jardin plaza (ciudad jardin) I haven't had them....I have to be honest when I go to Colombia I truly enjoy eating at my families house..I go to see the country and my family. I really don't care about eating out because my primas, uncles wives, godmother, tia, all cook so delicious that I rather stay and eat their food that is made with so much love for me. I will always take a home cook meal over a restaurant meal...I am just very bias like that. I always invite my relatives to eat out because I feel bad that they make a fuss cooking for me...but again I rather have home made food. The few times I ate out, I enjoyed many restaurants but again I just want some yummy home made Colombian food....for me it's all about the love ingredient! Oh how I miss Colombia...

MaFe comments on Will Colombians ever discover the oven? I don't know how people go to Colombia and expect Colombians to cater to them and completely changed their ways for them....Colombian food is beyond delicious no reason for Colombians to change anything...sorry but get over it....don't like it go to a country where they cater to your fried chicken needs...
