I'm starting to wonder if flirting in Colombia is different than in Canada? In Canada it usually does mean SOMETHING is up (maybe still very innocent, but shows some kind of attraction), but apparently not in Colombia.

A few times I have asked out colombianas that I thought were flirting outrageously, only to have them tell me they couldn't go out as they had boyfriends : (

Well, sometimes. I stick by my claim no food as is variable as an arepa. Some are wondefiul, and some no better than cardboard regardless of what you combine it with. Maybe it is a function of how freshly cooked it is, or whether it was prepared locally. I have had the same arepa at the same place on the same day and seen an arepa go from heavenly to hazardous. Colombians seem to take pride in a certain set of "received wisdom" -- the weather in Medellin is perfect, all paisas are wonderful, Botero and Márquez have never been equalled, Colombia is famous worldwide for its emeralds and biodiversity, nothing is better than an arepa... some of these things are true, and some of these things are true some of the time, and some of these things are an understandable expression of pride in a country which has genuine problems with image, poverty and oppression which, to its credit, is trying to put the best face on things rather than throw up their hands or wallow in despair. Now, I don't think I've ever had chicharrón or ajíaco that wasn't delicious, and I wish you could get Postobon Manzana (light) here.
