Kurious comments on PBH Cookbook: Need More Recipes

(Why do people feel the need to track me?) Something I ponder...anyway, I am wanting to know how to make hayacas? Recipes are welcome.

Kurious comments on PBH Cookbook: Need More Recipes

GS, I don't see you offering a hayaca recipe.

Kurious comments on PBH Cookbook: Need More Recipes

I don't doubt my first effort will be effective.Billy, I don't quite understand why you keep the company you do. Cheers!

Kurious comments on PBH Cookbook: Need More Recipes

You took offense, billy.I hesitate to respond on this forum because of people like you. Does that mean that you know how to cook? If so, I am working on my first batch of hayacas....I could use some help.

Kurious comments on Shakira rocked on the hope for Haiti telethon

Shakira and her agent are not fools. She just released a new album, right? Show me the money! Idiots!

Kurious comments on PBH Cookbook: Need More Recipes

I am seeking a recipe for "hayacas" Sexist assholes need not respond.

Kurious comments on Barranquilla Carnaval

Thanks for the information. I thought "Turn Me on" was going to Florida, that is what he told me. I am looking for street directions while in Barranquilla. Maybe another member can help me out. I am seeking street directions of the main parade for the Barranquiilla Parade for the upcoming Carnaval event.

Kurious comments on Barranquilla Carnaval

I am not worried about getting mugged...what are palco tickets?

Kurious comments on Barranquilla DAS harasses US soldier deployed to Afghanistan

For clarification, he was not questioning that he owed a fee. The problem arose from the amount that was quoted by DAS at the airport and a significantly different amount at the office in Barranquilla. All is well that ends well...he sent me an email letting me know that the issue was cleared up in about an hour. Yes, I looked him up and he is what he said.

Kurious comments on Barranquilla DAS harasses US soldier deployed to Afghanistan

Robert, I did not want to put his name on the Internet and I am sure you understand why considering his position but on the flipside I was prompted to say something with his deployment looming...and all things considered...these people being how they are...something needed to be said. I know you and others understand that concept. Any of you who have visited the country of Colombia can certainly understand that the only absolutes here are uncertainty. The rules are everchanging and I say that with some experience. I have avoided comments but when it comes to something like a soldier who needs to get back to the US so he can report for duty, my priorities change.

Kurious comments on Poor sapo, donate please

Do me a favor and don't fuck with me or what I do? Does that work for you guys? All things being equal in Colombia...for what that is worth.

Kurious comments on Poor sapo, donate please

You two are one and the same, is that correct?

Kurious comments on Poor sapo, donate please

I was being kind, you are seeking donations from someone whom I like and trust from PBH, now I would like to know why you are seeking donations? What is the cause? Does the organization have a mission and vision statement? Can you provide a financial statement for the past year, if you are a nonprofit organization, that would include the usual disclosures like an audited financial statement.

Kurious comments on Attention Elmodefoque

Robert, I hate to intrude on your conversation but whatever Robbie told you...I would take it to heart. Instead of rushing into something, why don't you enjoy the environment and contribute what you can? You have a lot to offer...do not commit to anything.

Kurious comments on Off Topic?

You all are getting on my nerves...my home team is doing exceptionally well in traditional football. My own son is kicking ass in Rugby (which I have decided I do not like because they do not wear protective gear when they play). Brutal sport, I have watched my sons play football for years but not without gear. I really do not like it.

Kurious comments on JUST OUT.........6 yr old boy climbs in home made mylar balloon shapped like a flying saucer.

stephen_aubrey, my utmost respect as you seem to have an eye or ear for media stories that the majority of people believe but for some reason, you do not. Tell me about that experience. What separates you from the rest? Is it your nationality...being Canadian? What is it about you? Do you have a "sixth sense"? Would you be willing to answer questions like this for a worldwide audience?

Kurious comments on looking for smokeless tabacco in cartagena

I am thinking of visiting Cartagena tomorrow...any suggestions?

Kurious comments on Scopolamine Stories

Flatline, you are correct. Since I have been in Colombia, I have had two experiences that have caused me to not partake of distilled spirits. I am still unsure of the cause but I have been trying to eliminate a few. Since I can not verify anything, I would encourage any visitor to the country to be careful. You consume at your own risk. Be prepared for the consequences...and have a good time? It is all you can do. Based on your comment, have a memorable time in Colombia...don't expect to arrive home with a lot of money. Enjoy the experience...don't fault the company you were keeping. It is a way of life.

Kurious comments on Off Topic?

Sorry, flatline, that was me. I love American football but am learning more about these other sports. Rugby included...since that is what my son is playing. I am sorry, not, that I don't follow soccer or (futbol) as you guys know it. My home college team is ranked number five or six and that works for me. I am learning about the others. These rugby guys are brutes...kind of like my son. I don't care, say what you will.

Kurious comments on President of Colombia has the SWINE FLU! GRIPA AH1N1

I see that you are a new member of PBH...let me welcome you. I see that you have not posted any topics, only comments. I am concerned about this deadly pandemic of flu virus, can you post more information with relevant sources? Thanks.

Kurious comments on

That sounds fantastic, Huskie...is that specific for different countries? Is there anything that I can share with people in Colombia? Personally, I am a proponent of people not panicking over particular strains of a flu virus. If you are a relatively healthy person between the age of 2-65, you will be fine, like in all the years before. I say this from my experience from a public health perspective and disaster preparedness perspective. Let it go... If, on the other hand you are elderly or suffer from a compromised immune system, then seek the advice of a medical professional. Otherwise, we will develop immunities to this virus like we have done to others in the past. You may suffer some uncomfortable symptoms but if you are healthy, you will survive.

Kurious comments on Scopolamine Stories

McGringo, I would love to hear your story...assuming that you have one.

Kurious comments on Off Topic?

Heroin use is a good question but who the hell is asking about 12 year old girls?

Kurious comments on Off Topic?

You know, I love American football but now I have a son playing Rugby at the collegiate level so I am a little closer to appreciating soccer or futbol. This would be one of my many areas of ignorance about South America. I have met and do like Beckham.

Kurious comments on Scopolamine Stories

Guys, if you want to get laid cheap and well...spend your money in Colombia. Is that concise enough?

Kurious comments on roccatanski

For whatever reason, you have a problem with my presence on the forum.

If I didn't think I had a little more to offer in this life, I might try that experiment with the 9mm "pill". Time will tell...that seems kind of final. Webmanco, I only suggested medicine as one form of cure for his headaches regarding this forum. I am a naturalist myself.

Kurious comments on Scopolamine Stories

Anyone living in Bogota probably needs drugs.

Kurious comments on no new members

Wait, I know the answer to this...well, maybe not...I used to think it was me. I was accused of it enough times...someone that asks questions? No...someone who asks questions that others on the forum see as inflammatory based on their experience on the forum. Maybe...so, early on, I was asking questions that came across as inflammatory. I guess that made me a troll. Thanks to all the long-standing members on this forum, I feel like I have been educated.

Kurious comments on no new members

You are right, roccatanski, I need to keep things simple for you. If this site and the content and/or members give you a "headache", then I would kindly suggest some remedies that might help you. *Cut off your head (as in the previously mentioned advice) *Stop reading/commenting on posts on this forum *Take an OTC (over-the-counter) pain reliever to relieve the symptoms of the headache *Finally, if the above mentioned remedies do not alleviate the headache, seek the advice of a qualified medical practitioner. Good luck!

Preface the story differently, "Hugo Rodallega, the only native Colombian player in the English Premier League...". It sounds like it should be a Colombian story.

Kurious comments on Scopolamine Stories

I shared information awhile back regarding an expat who had been drugged and then hospitalized in Medellin. Over the weekend, I received an update...regarding the amount of money the man lost while drugged. Apparently, over the course of a couple of days, he lost $11, 000 US dollars from his accounts. We discussed it a bit...the limits on transactions from ATM's, etc...They (the robbers, I guess) use local drugstores to swipe the credit or debit cards and hand out cash. I don't know the details...this is something I heard over the weekend in a casual conversation.

Roccatanski, I think you present a hypothesis that if proven true with experimentation could prove to be valuable information for those that maintain online forums and seek effective methods of keeping trolls from inhabiting their sites. Do the experiment regarding the removal of your head and, if it is successful in reducing or completely removing the headache, then the same methodology might be effective for those moderating this forum.

njc, great article and information. My first thought would be...well, I can't say what I think...that would be inappropriate. I would encourage others to read this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombia_–_United_States_relations

Kurious comments on Colombia - United States relations - historical background

Lp, you could probably count me among the clueless US citizens unless it was a test question...sorry, you guys master history details much better than me. The information is useful for me as I frame a "slice of life" story, it gives me perspective so it is very helpful. Thanks.

Kurious comments on Colombia - United States relations - historical background

Earlier this evening, I saw this same gentleman at the front desk in our building speaking with a few other men. I had hoped to sneak by but no such luck so I joined their conversation. At the moment, he was administering blood pressure checks. We started talking about the two different languages...English and Spanish...he was explaining the different regional dialects in the US like how hard it was to understand people from New York and the "drawl" or accent of those people in the Southern US. He then went on to describe how people in the Southern states really do not like Hispanic people and I just wanted to crawl away. I offered, "Prejudiced?" and he quickly agreed. I knew exactly what he meant...many locations in the US profile Hispanic people. I know, I used to type it up every week...the police reports and first hand accounts from the law enforcement personnel. It is such a sad thing but very real. As the foreigner here in Colombia, with the exception of the locals not understanding the rules of social etiquette that I am accustomed to in the US, I have been treated with nothing but kindness from the Colombian people .

Kurious comments on Colombia - United States relations - historical background

Hmmm...seen as an accomplishment historically for the Theodore Roosevelt administration, from a US perspective? According to Luce, there was violence and turmoil in the country about 40-50 years ago. What city/region are you/your parents from? Jimbo, immigration procedures must have been much simpler than they are today to the US from Colombia and elsewhere. JB, great story...makes me a little teary-eyed with pride for that young man. Don't be too hard on the current administration...like others before them I feel that they have the country's best interests in mind. It is okay if we disagree...if we had to defend our country I think we are on the same side. FreakyG, I am glad to hear they were an ally...I need to read a little more about that time period. Thanks for the information. Regarding the Canal, they (Colombia) accepted the price we (the US) were willing to pay? So, is that not a mute point or still a point of contention.

Wait, I missed that earlier comment. I don't particularly care for your avatar (I don't like long hair on guys) but you make a valid point. Mine being that I keep getting these notifications via email so I was hoping for a peaceful resolution.

Could we please close this thread for additional comments? Thanks?

I agree, Robert. There was a reason why I did not post a review in the Cartagena travel section due to the fact I did not think it was fair to El Corral without more to go on than "word of mouth". Quite frankly, this post and the comments are boring me...if I ate worms...whatever. I guess I will suffer the consequences...they really did not taste bad at all. Can we go on to other things now?

Kurious comments on Colombia - United States relations - historical background

The reason I am asking is because I met a gentleman in the elevator this evening that spoke some English. Always gets my attention here in Colombia when I say "cuatro" and they confirm with "four?". So, I started asking questions after stopping at his floor instead of mine...he emigrated to the US about 40 years ago, may have worked as a truckdriver but what got my attention...three of his sons have served in the US Armed Forces - Army, Navy and Marines...with several combat tours behind them (Bosnia, Persian Gulf, Iraq). To me, that is significant...coming from a fairly new emigrant to the US.

I read the comments last night before they were deleted (or edited) which prompted me to make a response. All around...unfortunate. We all have bad days...

Kurious comments on Colombia - United States relations - historical background

Thanks...I was looking for some trigger statements and the wikipedia article helps...like so many before them, they were seeking a better life than they found in their own country at the time. A better life awaits them and their children in America, is that right? What exactly did they hope to find upon arriving in America? If we look back 40 years, the US was in the middle of the Vietnam War, Kennedy x 2 had been assassinated, as was MLK, we landed on the moon...what else?

Kurious comments on Colombia - United States relations - historical background

Is that it? Long before the drugs...was it just the economy? A better life? The same emigrant story told for generations, centuries...

I felt obligated to try and put out fires last night and neglected to correct you, stocktrader. Huskie is an intelligent, well-traveled female member of this forum who contributes often. She has a long memory but an apology would not be a bad idea.
