My first big travel trip outside of Europe was to India, and I still remember the day I arrived in Mumbai (Bombay then). On the taxi ride from the airport, I looked my eyes out, everything was colorful, everything was foreign. And it stayed that way, I could never get over how colorful India really was.
I'm not sure if it made such a big impression on me because it was my first big trip, or because India really is that intense, I guess a bit of both.
What was your first visit to India like?

Because I paid in dollars they bumped some Indian off his flight and I went. I just remember that I kept waking up in a bus traveling through Goa, looking out the window, palm trees everywhere, it looked like paradise to me. That was about 20 years ago. houstongal says on Nov 9, 2008, 15:34: Gee Peter, I guess I'll be able to add my impressions in a few days. I fly to Mumbai on Friday. I'll be there for 3 weeks and 1 week in Chennai. Everyone that I've known who has gone from work either loves it or hates it. I'm hoping I'm in the "love it" category. houstongal says on Nov 18, 2008, 23:22: OK...I've been in Mumbai for 5 days now. First impressions....dusty, people are everywhere especially walking on the side and acrossthe road, incessant honking, and no-holds-bar driving.
