anybody who's put up with colombia for 15 yrs is a friend of mine. been in medallo for 20 now and LORD, during that time, ive buried a child, raised another, put up with and gone thru hell with and loved to death a wife of as many years. right now we're in florida getting our daughter through school and off to university. then we can return permanently...our home and family are in envigado.

It is nice to read post that makes positive statements. I am moving to Medellin in October. I am retired and have a fare income now. My fiance and I have found a very nice casa for $1,000.000.00 per month. Large clean and safe. I hope that tutoring in Medellin will give me the extra money to enjoy our lives. I do not pretend to know everything but I have traveled to Colombia many times and Medellin is the place I want to live. Any help, imput or advice from you is greatly appreciated. My fiance has lived in Medellin all her life. For the record she is not a youngster. It is not my desire to raise another child. :)

Thanks to all for the welcome. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you. Teaching here for the past 15 years and running the hostel for the past 13 months has been quite a learning experience for me.

For those interested in teaching; I recommend you charge a month in advance, this will provide some sense of economic security for you and it will force your students to be more responsible with attendance. Remember to give your students the option of making a group for the class in order to cut costs. I charge $30.000 for the first student and $2.000 for each additional one and once again, I charge on a monthly basis in advance. I find teaching high school students who are failing English the best customers; they pay, are very punctual and usually are willing to learn.
