looking for feedback from someone living the life

.....thinking about spending a lot of time in ecuador to check it out. any thoughts as to where to go that would be somewhat equivalent to medellin on some level. trying to decide where to settle eventually. i would have to believe that ecuador is less expensive than colombia. any thoughts would be appreciated.........
