Beaches - Ecuador

Best Beaches in Ecuador

I travelled to Ecaudor a few times last year and really enjoyed it. I am heading back there and I am up for advice on peoples opinions of the best beach places. I am looking at two different ''types'' ofbeach getaways. One where there is a nice beach and 24 / 7 type party and the secopnd maybe a much more quiet place where these is a decent bar scene, not too heavy, and the possibility exists to go to beautiful beaches nearby.

Last year i went to:

Manta - didnt really rate it as a town. Not the nicest beach. Went kite surfing on a beach about 30 mins sth which was OK (but windy - so sucks if you are not into wind sports). Maybe I didnt see enough?

Crucita - found this place an absolute dump with no redeeming features.

Canoa - thought this place was great. Small but a happening nightlife, great beach, surfing etc.

Guayaquil - didnt spend enough time there to rate the beaches nearby.

I was considering checking out Salinas, Atacames, Montanita, Esmereldas on my next trip. What are your impressions of these?

Anyone heard of a place called San Clemente?

Thanks for your help.

Salinas is considered the best but if you want nice beaches go to the Caribbean (San Andres Island!) and forget the pacific unless you can go to Hawaii and west of there......

Many a Mexicano will tell you that Cabo and Acapulco etc are nice but once you go to Cancun, Cozumel and Maya Riviera you never go back to the Pacific side.....

Montanita is where all the suffers go. Pot and Party ... Esmereldas is a good place to go get mugged
if you are not with a local... Salinas is like a small time ( old time ) Miami beach ..

Having lived in Curacao for 14 months, I can say there isn't a beach in Ecuador that really interests me. I've been to Montanita, and don't care for the culture much (not that theres anything wrong with it... just not my scene). I have heard from many that the surfing is pretty good there, with decent breaks. But, alas i'm not a surfer either so can't speak from experience.

Salinas is nice; the water isn't disgusting like it is in Manta. Obviously, it's very popular with guayaquilenos. In the times I was there, the beaches were always packed. The only thing that bothered me was people constantly trying to get you to rent waverunners or taking boating trips or whatever. I did rent a pair of 900cc waverunners for $15 for 30 min, which was fun.

Had many a good time in Puerto Cayo as well. Alot of manabitas party there on long weekends. Its not builtup much (probably comparable to Crucita), but its dirt cheap; but as always, be careful and don't go walking around at night by yourself.

Mejor que nunca!
