welcome to pbh, doc. you'll find many friends and probably a foe or two. if you've read the posts over time you see how silly some of the members can get with each other. there's lots of ex police...my self included, so you'll have much in common with many members. me? i left it behind years ago. it was my first job in life and proved to be more political than i could deal with. but it was definitely in my blood.

don't worry about your pension, it's more than enough to live comfortably. i've been in and around medallo (medellin) for over twenty years and it's great. sure, there's a shit load of problems, but having 'done the beat' you have street smarts and know how to cover your ass. you won't have problems. follow the advise, "stay alert, stay alive" and you're good to go. don't venture out into areas you're not familiar with and always, especially at night, go around with a friend. make your colombian friends prove themselves to you...in otherwords, take your time. they can be the biggest hustlers you ever knew. including the "homies" back home. there are many wonderful, realiable colombians, but they are the hardest to get to kinow, as they're not out running around and hanging out in clubs and bars.

i don't know where you intend on settling in colombia, but for my money, it would be some where around antioquia...medellin is the capitol of antioquia. the ladies are the prettiest and the pueblos are the nicest and once outside the metro areas, you'll really discover the nature of colombia and colombians...more than you will with those who are drawn like flies to the tourists and foreigners.

all i can say is good luck to you and welcome to colombia and pbh.
