Question.... who's actually been to Cuba?

Just curious. I think a lot of the people on this site are American, so I was wondering who's actually been to Cuba and where did you go?

I've been 7 times myself.

Awesome. That's the best way to see Cuba isn't it? I've only rented a car once with a g/f and we drove in to Habana Viejo, oh dear GOD that was just ridiculous but fun.

Morphus, I think we're the only two people on PBH that have been to Cuba haahhaa. I miss it so much.

Nice Photo Morphus, havent made it to Cienfuegos myself. Ill try to find some pics when i get back in Holland.

As for my trip:

Arrived in Varadero and left the following day (i feel sorry for the folks that spend weeks in Varadero and claim to have been in Cuba).

Rented a car for 2 weeks : Pinar Del Rio, Vinales, Santa Clara, Santi Spiritus, Trinidad and some smaller places i shamefully forgot.

Followed by 3 weeks in Habana Vieja. Loved it.

Elmin, I refer to Varadero as the Cancun of Cuba. I would say that the majority of package tourists don't get to really experience anything of Cuba outside their shee-shee resorts or prepackaged tours.

Awesome pic Morphus. I haven't been to Cienfugos yet. It's on the list. ;)

We went to Havana for a few days and then to Varadero for a few too. Rented a moped, found a priest and were married on the beach the next day. Can't wait to go back, like above was mentioned, Varadero isn't really Cuba.

I went to holguin where alot of the canadian package tours go and rented a car. we drove around to santiago de cuba, bayamo, guantanamo and baracoa. this is the "oriente" as they say there. we picked up lots of hitchhikers and got lost and went to peoples homes and hit the beaches and ate lots of crappy roadside pizza and had a blast. but this was only for a week so i would love to go back again and see the western side or the middle or the cayos.

Well, I've tried that, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff too and I have a TON of cool pics from La Habana!

love cuba. went for my honeymoon in 2001. stayed in havana and then took a bus to San Cristobal and stayed for a few weeks in a room rented out of a family's house. San Cristobal is a small farming area, lots of tobacco growing. Lots of chickens, pigs and dogs running around. We were walking distance from a nice hotel and swam in the pool for $5 a day.

The botanical garden in San Cristobal is run by two older sisters and very surreal. None of our pictures taken there came out, very strange.

Traveled through Jamaica to get there, no problems once there. would love to go back someday.

Acually, the bus system is good. I took a bus from Havana to Santiago. Private taxis are OK to.

Course, I had a private ¨Tour Guide¨, but bus sytem is safe and clean. Even had a movie. Not as good as Peru´s system, but almost,
