Manizales is a small city (380,000 people) in the middle of the Zona Cafetera. It's also a starting place for hiking in Parque Nacional De Los Nevados.
There have been many earthquakes in the past, so there aren't many old colonial buildings, it's a rather modern town. It tends to be cool and can often be rainy.

Transportation to Manizales: There's a small airport with flights to and from Bogota. The bus terminal (Av 19, Cr 14/Cr 17) has buses to Bogota (8 hours), Medellin (5 hours) and Cali (5 hours).

The good: There rooms are modern, clean and the location can not be beat.
The bad: dinner costs are high
I stayed in this gem of a boutique hotel for five days in August 2009. There is little about the hotel Idid not like. The staff are friendly, courteous and quite helpful. I arrived about 2 and my room was not ready. After checking several others they put me on the penthouse floor. The rooms are modern, spacious and imaculate. The breakfast, complimentary with the room I booked, consistes of fruit, eggs, steak breads, coffee and jiuce. This is not a buffet. They cook to order which I appreciate.
The hotel is located in walking distance to the Zona Rosa, a strip of clubs, bars and restaurants frequented by the nearby university crowds. There is also a mall (with casino) withing a short walk.
Throught Travelocity the rate ran me for four nights and five days on a prepay at $256. I would highly recomend this hotel

srobledo says on Jun 11, 2009, 08:51: Just a quick note, the bus terminal has been moved to a new place in the outskirts of Manizales, so now its far from the old downtown place, and much bigger (although some parts of it are still under construction!)
