Yikes! ATM Fees

ATMs that I have used for years are now charging a transaction fee and it ain´t cheap: $5.500. I´m only aware of two, Bancolombia and Davidienda that haven´t joined the trend yet but even they show the verbage for it on the screen so I guess it´s just a matter of time

WAMU was acceptable at 1% flat fee, now that its Chase its 3% plus a foreign transaction fee.

I think the OP is referring to the fees charged by Colombian banks, not by the US bank.
It is common knowledge on PBH that certain debit/credit/ATM card don't charge fees when used abroad. But the ATMs abroad can still charge fees. Up until recently, Colombian ATMs didn't seem to charge. Anyone receving charges from the Colombian ATM?

As far as I know the Colombian banks charge as well, but it shows up in your statement, either monthly or every quarter, all part of the hidden extras.
As for the Servibanca cash points that charge comes from visa even if you don't have a visa card, I checked it out with the Nationwide in the UK, they were not aware of the charge as they pride themself on not charging customers .

mike, true! I bought Helm Bank shares and they have done pretty well, and also have a nice dividend!
But at least they were not charging for using their ATMs up until Servibanca and apparently a few other started charging.

really pilotguy? do they have a max amount that they refund?

HSBC near Parque Poblado...Gives a notice of 5500COP....BBVA at the airport gave a notice but did not show the amount but when I used did not deduct any fees...Citibank No Fees....We are taking about the ATM/Withdrawal Bank....Capital One never charges ATM Fees International or Domestic but they will not responsible for the otherside...

Might be a trend..Now BancodeBogota,BancoPopular,BancoAvillas,BBVA are with the ATH Network...So I would think this would be up to the ATH network if there going to start charging fees....Colpatria did not charge any fees last month..but I am only using citibank for now on anyways..I don't like the security at the Colombian Banks ATMs except Citibank...and Citibank ATM's are newer and you can withdraw million pesos in one shot...

This is true. I pay $5 foreign transaction fee to my card company but when you can get $1000 USD out in one transaction it does not hurt that much.

Change machines until you fiind one with money and then it will give you 2 million. I thought the same thing a few months ago and it took me a few times to Citibank San Diego and El Poblado to figure out that is what the machine reverts to when it is low on cash.

Now I just cancel the transaction and then try other machines. Only once did I have to try three to get back two million.

Have always used Davivienda ATM's without Colombia-based fees. The other day Davivienda charged me a 1 mil fee to withdraw from a US account. It isn't much, but it shows they are all joining the trend.

When I go to Bancolombia, a message appears saying there MAY be a fee charged by them on top of anything from my bank. They give the option to view the fee. When I choose to view it, they say, it is not available to view at this time.

Not many banks left without a fee here.
