Where to live in Medellin...looking for neighborhood near a cafe, park, supermarket, etc.

I'm in Medellin now and will be here for another month.

I'm in El Poblado about a 10 minute cab ride from Parque Lleras.

I would prefer to live somewhere in a real neighborhood, some place down to earth where I can walk to a coffee shop, park and supermarket.

Any suggestions from Medellin veterans?

Thanks!

Joel from San Francisco.

A couple blocks in any direction from the floresta metro station, La castellana/Santa Gema a few blocks off of the 33. Some like near la 70 - in between san juan & UPB. "Down to earth" usually implies the other side of the river from Poblado.

Laureles is nicer than poblado to live, but can be a little expensive. Belen is nice and I think would be less expensive. I also like the las palmas area behind the San Diego mall subiendo por la via las palmas.

Buenos Aires is probably nicer than Barrio Buenos Aires.

besides, Morphus...my 100K pension with 3% cost of living is not affected by crack use/distribution/possession whatsoever, unless i OD of course.....=)......then that would really ruin my retirement......

btw, my trip to NYC never was......the invite was to attend the wedding of an exgirlfriend from Bogota.....jajajaja.....took me awhile to get her to spill the beans.......

you might want to check out prado. it's old medellin, a bit south east of the couria (centro comercio villanueva) off oriental. nice old houses and close to everything. i've lived in laureles and prefer poblado...check out poblado viejo, below oriental (ave. poblado) nice area both north and south of cl 10. lots of places and nice folks. had a huge home there for a number of years. and as you know, it's close in to all that you might like.

just curious, vlad...why do you like laureles over poblado. for me it's really apples and oranges and no comparison is possible.

Hmm, the hill near Pueblito Paisa is a very nice central neighbourhood, in central Medellin, but not in the hustle and dirt of 'el centro'. Belen-Fatima perhaps, or even Envigado, if you don't mind living a bit far.
