whats up in santa marta?

Ive heard talk that theses days there is less military in santa marta and as a reult a lot more crime..(.this is what my wife says her family is telling her).Im hoping its b.s. and i figured the best bet to get the facts is to ask someone on the ground in that area....hense pbh???Any truth to that?
I hope not as im taking my yearly escape to colombia in jan/feb and taking in the beach there is on my list of prioritys along with cold beer...sun ...cold beer....and perhaps some umbrella drinks that go good with cold beer.

Can't answer your question about the military in Santa Marta, (maybe OTM will pop in and help out) but I like your priorities Sir. ;)

jinks. What part of January you gonna be in Santa Marta? Before the 24th? Maybe we could enjoy a brew, or 2?

I see the military daily - but then I live close to a military base. Today a bunch of big green copters were coming and going most of the afternoon.

jinks - go to Rodadero - awsome in holiday season; 8,000 or so for a tent on the beach (if you want it), 2,000 for a cold beer and you don't really get hassled at all - the vendadores are quite respectful, unlike Cartagena. If you don't like crowds, you can walk a few beaches to the left.

Investment Strategy - buying when others are crying!! Offloading when others are gloating!!!

Rodadero will be noise 24 hours a day for 2 weeks.. I would assume it would hard to find a tent for 8k then - as the place will be packed.. I was there yesterday and they were hanging the Christmas lights on the trees by the beach. Likewise, they were doing the same here in SM the last couple of days -but they are not turned on yet (grin). I went to San Andricito yesterday and picked up 3 bottles of Bacardi (750) - dark, clear and Limon for 57,000 (19K each) - that is cheaper than in Florida at ABC. All 3 bottles had tax stickers from Mexico (grin). Now I will need to get some more Whiskey (Old Parr). It's amazing the price on the street vs going to the Exito. Oh for beer (bickerss) you can get 30 bottles for 28,500 and another 500 pesos if you want it cold (plus deposit of 7,000 per case) at the distributor right there 3 blocks from the beach in Rodadero. That slightly under 1,000 pesos for ice cold beer - with the stamped "born on date" like in the US!

ive done santa marta and rodadero quite a bit in the past...ya rodadero can get a bit noisy but i sleep well regardless..(.probably the sun and beer).i won,t tent it though...i,ll be hunting for a furnished apartment as i,ll be bringing my daughter...2 yrs old.i think i paid about 120 mil col for an apartment right on the beach last year per night...not to bad and big enough for about 10 people which we needed as we had family along.i exspect to be down there about mid jan for a week or so and i,ll be breaking up the rest of my time in col with time spent in BQ and cartegena or wherever else the spirit takes me...be in col for 5 weeks...lots of time for a tan and cold beer.

Going to check out aussie Mikes new bar as well!! There had better be sun - the rain was driving me crazy in Medellin (city of the eternal spring my A at #)
