what's a good bottle of wine here?

Anyone know a decent bottle of wine I could bring to a party? I don't know much about wine or wine in Colombia. I would like to keep it under 30mil if possible.

Do they sell Argentinian wines in Colombia?
There are some pretty decent Malbecs being produced in that country..robust but totally correct with a a nice churrasco.....

I've been buying ecological wines from Argentina and Chile lately. Do they sell them in Colombia too?

Vina Santa Ema Reserve Cabernet is a nice table wine! About $5-$6 in Chile and $7-$8 in Costco in the states. I thought I saw in Cali so it should be in your price range. I like it better than the one listed above. Montes is a nice brand that has some bottles in your range also. Malbecs are also very nice.

Thanks for all the quick responses folks! Lately I've been leaning towards whites (I like Chardonnay), but usually go with a red because most of my friends seem to prefer it.

Well, Casillero del diablo comes in different grape combinations, personally I'm a cabernet person, but merlot casillero is certainly a nice, albeit lightweight variety.

Go with Santa Rita or any wine from Chile or Argentina, Spanish wines also have a good value in Colombia specially reds.

I find the Frontera Cabernet Sauvignon with the "Concha y Toro" mark to be a good value at around 18,000. Well received wherever I go.

However, if it's a party you are attending I agree with kat1, you would be better received with Ron or Aquardiente!

Ummm wine is a fast growing phenomenum in Colombia as they try and push the middle classes away from aguardiente & aguila. The market grew some 25% last year so you would have thought that would make it a good place to buy but for me most of the wines are fairly over priced and there is nothing that good for under 20,000. I now only buy with my carrefour club de vin card (available online) which gives you Carrefour discounts every Friday - sometimes up to 30% off. In Carrefour you can get some decent French wines for around 25,000 if that's your tip alternatively Chile & Argentina are always fairly safe bets. Say a Chileno Valdivieso for around 30,000 or a Joffre from Mendoza for around 35,000. Pomona also does discounts on booze on Fridays so you could try there too but make sure you chose bottles on promotion.

I signed up for the Carrefour Wine Club which had to be done online. It took over a month to finally receive my plastic discount card. It isn't just Fridays that they have discounts. There is one going on today with a cool 40% off some good selected wines. They send out weekly emails with various wine sales going on. My only complaint is that the various wines on sale are not for every store even though they might have that wine in stock.

Here is the link to join:

Here is their list of current wines with a 25% sale:

I'm glad to be of service and that you went out and bought them trusting my taste buds. Do me the same favor sometime by making a wine recommendation that you enjoyed. Thanks!

pablo: Thanks for the wine recommendation. I bought a couple of bottles (actually six) of the Viu Manent Reserva Malbec 2007 and enjoyed it with my spaghetti dinner this evening.

Here's a wine you might want to try: 2008 Bonarda from the CHAKANA YAGURETÉ COLLECTION

It's from Mendoza - Argentina and available here in Poblado at the "Bodega Gourmet" located just above Parque Lleras on I think Calle 8. If you can't find it let me know and I'll get their address for you.

Maybe we should start a small wine club here on PBH. Everyone can recommend a good wine they've tried and give a short review along with price and where to find it. Just a thought!
