Visa transitions (tourist to otherwise)

I get asked a lot of questions in making The Arepa magazine. Since I give my attention to the details of what is happening in the city, people assume I have more answers than I actually have. I got stumped on one and want to run it by the sage forum of PBH, um what's the opposite of newbies? Oldies?
On that note, did anyone find faults in the "Renewing your visa article" in the magazine. I would like to expand on this theme to cover the more prickly issues since I am sure we all agree, DAS is the hobgoblin of Colombian paradise.

Besides suggesting an eminent trip to Bogota, I was short of an answer to this conundrum: What happens to a student visa application AFTER surpassing the 6 month tourist visa?

A) Fine followed by a green light for a student visa
B) Rejection followed by a fine upon leaving
C) Immediate exile courtesy of ornery DAS troopers
D) Punishment of indentured servitude for 6 months in Colombo Americano with a homestay in Manrique
E) There is no known clear answer

are you talking about and actual consulate issued tourist visa or entry using your passport. entry by using your passport is NOT a tourist visa (common misconception.)

If you pass the six-month maximum stay in a calendar year you are in Colombia illegally.

A good possibility for "A" based upon approval by MRE Bogotá. DAS would be out of the picture for the visa. Unlikely but B and C would still be lurking in the background,

"Bene, cum Latine nescias, nolo manus meas in te maculare" .
