Uribe not running for third term (or so he says)

He said--among other things--that "perpetuating oneself in power stales the democratic process," which also sends a message about his opinion on Chavez's referendum.

I'm very glad to hear these words from Uribe; I couldn't agree more. I hope he sticks to them. The timing couldn't be any better.

I hope his appointed candidate is not one of the paraco-criminals of his coalition or one of the morons in his cabinet. There's more among the conservatives to choose from.

Unless the rhetoric gets more intense, I don't think the border will be closed with Colombia. Venezuela is far too dependent on imports from Colombia. At this point the border is business as usual. Though, I could see him inventing an excuse to close it for the weekend, due to the referendum. His habit is to invent enemy threats to unite the ignorant behind him.

One thing RJ. I have a little trouble with the idea of separating FARC and narcos. I consider them one in the same. FARC have never done anything in the interest of Colombia. They serve themselves like fat pigs, engorging themselves through the suffering of their fellow countrymen. Unless someone sees how knocking down power lines and other utilities help the poor of Colombia.

There may have been a point where they started out working in cooperation with pure narcos, a couple decades ago. But since then they took over drug operations and are the narcos in the shrinking areas they control.

Good, naturally. It's not impossible that he may still end up running, if future events lead us along that path, but I do continue to think it's extremely unlikely at this point.
