From a longtime datawhore - here's some tricks for ya.
First up.. exploit google. Simply type the file name you want and follow it with a semicolon and torrent. e.g. yourdesiredfile:torrent
Don't tell the MPAA about that one! he he
I've got a fascination with the roots of music, and I've been sniffing around for some champeta.
Here's some ones I've stumbled upon: http://www.monteriaoscura.com.es/ , http://www.purotorrent.com/ , the downside of these sites is that they don't have the dedicated community to report on genuine torrents and infected files, unlike mininova, tpb, and isohunt. - so that's risky business for a Windows user, and I hope you've seen the light, and run Ubuntu or the like.
There's also the sitescrapers... like torrentz, and gpirate, and maybe pizzatorrent will return if they can climb outta the courts, but the top half of the page is always occupied by bogus auto-generated results that link to ad-sites... so choose wisely.
For blogs and sites wih individual mp3 tracks listed, i use the Downloadthemall plugin for Firefox, and then just strip the entire page for mp3s. works with any and all streaming media including youtube (though i don't know what you'd do with that crappy quality sound.. ring tone maybe?)... but the main point is, more music = yummy for the soul!! Combine that with ckuik and you can start discovering a lot of music really quick. e.g. http://ckuik.com/champeta_africana

There's also last.fm which while you can't download is great for finding artists that you like.

On the music side of things, theres lots of rumble around the nueva-cumbia/cumbia-digital scene in Argentina, but im yet to find anything without cheese. Giles peterson from BBC1 has a Back to Brazil collection that is nice, and pretty much all his stuff is awesome in my opinion.
One more thing.. if your an audiophile, make sure its encoded in FLAC, or mp3 at 320kps, or Ogg.

Anyway its a start. enjoy (bettergo getchaself a terabyte harddrive now)

piratebay is the old standard. they have a lot of latin music as well as everything else. their server has been getting overloaded a lot lately, and as panthdave said, they wont be around forever. been using isohunt.com as a backup. not sure if they have latin music but its worth a try.

Ya I have done the normal haunts like piratebay and mininova- and have pretty much got everything worthwhile off of both. Thanks for the other less traveled tips as well.
