Repost of Business Visa Question????????????

I am reposting this because I continue to get conflicting answers.

I was told again today that the NE biz visa has the same restrictions as the tourist visa=6 months in the calendar year. He specifically said he was told by the Colombian Consulate personally.

It's amazing that there is so much conflicting info. I have checked several visa info sources and have not been able to get a deifinitive answer.

Miguel Clavo's statements are logical and I hope correct.

A cut and paste from a legit source or link specific visa law would be much appreciated.

Here is the original post:

Negocios NE Visa----Who is right? 180 days total in a calendar year or 180 days, leave and come back for another 180

Miguel Clavo wrote:

Yes, you can stay 6 months in Colombia, leave for one day and return the next day. Business Visas are multiple entry visas (non-resident) for a specific time periods of 1-2-3-4 years. You enter, stay 6 months then have to leave the country. You return the next day if you want, and stay another 6 months if you like. This continues until your business visa expires. Anyone who says otherwise obviously doesnt know what the fok they are talking about.

And in a separate post confirmed:

You must leave the country after a stay of 180 days, and you can leave one day, and return the next. When you reenter, you get another 180 days. Stupid, but reality.

You can only stay in the country six months per year on a business visa. That means you can come for one month, two, three etc. but no more than six months in a twelve month period. I'm surprised they didn't tell you that when you obtained your visa.

I prefer Miguel's take on things but which one is it?

A Type NE is a multiple-entry visa, with 6 months being the max for each entry. PBH is full of shit, to be polite. HOWEVER, with the new law changes effective last month, it will now be 1 YEAR length of stay for each entry, and the dependent members of the primary NE visa holder are also eligible for the same NE visa. If your NE visa is a Free Trade Agreement-related business, you can remain for 2 YEARS per each entry. NE visas are good for 1-2-3-4 years depending on if the issuer got lucky the night before.

Obviously, the Consular Office and your friend dont know their asses from a hole in the ground. Who cares what they say, DAS is the one who would handle all post-visa issues. I have been doing just that (leave and reenter the next day) for almost two years now.

This makes sense! I am beginning to think that the guy that swears the visa is only good for six months is simply confused by the above mentioned requirement.

So, I am going to live me life assuming that MC is correct. In my case my visa is good for one year and I will stay a maximum of 6 months or 180 days per entry!

I am done worrying about it.

Muchissimo gracias MC and MES! Finally, I can get a good nights sleep. :) :) :)

To which I say, AMEN! :) End of story.

Under the new rules, it is now 1 year per entry, but who knows how long that will be before the DAS guys understand that. Althought i went through immigration in Bogota about 2 weeks ago prepared to hand the guy a copy of the new law with the appropriate sections highlighted in yellow, but he said he was aware of it already, so who knows????

OP, make sure your visa has Negocio or NE in the upper right hand corner under Type/Category...otherwise it is something other than a Negocio visa (Business).
