Thank you very much LA_LOVE. I plan to buy an apartment in the future. Maybe in 6 months. I am working in Bogota and I live in a rented flat. I will now start learning about real estate....

One more question. If I find the apartment I want to buy how do I pay. I have my money in swiss francs on a saving account on a swiss bank. What do you recommend? Buying USD first and than change the USD to pesos? Or changing the swiss francs directly to pesos? Than I have to transfer all the money in one transaction to Colombia? I have a saving account on Bancolombia....

I don't know anything about excahnge rates between USD and swiss francs.

If you are going to pay the apartment you need to buy a "Cheque de Gerencia" in a local Bank (may be in Bancolombia), if you are going to pay it in cash. It depends if you are going to buy it by a real estate company or by a constructor or to a local person, it depends in the agreement that you have with seller.

I suggest you to don't make too much transactions, because exchange currency offices fees or baks are the same if you change from swiss francs to COP, but if you change from swiss francs to USD you will loose some money from the fee of changing money and later from the USD amount at change it to COP you have to pay another fee for change it that amount.

If you change an Currency the fee will be almost 2% or 3% per transaction. If you change 2 different currencies the fee will be not 3%, will be 6% = swiss francs to USD 3% less + USD to COP 3% less = 6% less

Another way is asking for finance in a local bank too, -> by a Mortgage (Prefered, if is for renting).

"I have my money in swiss francs on a saving account on a swiss bank."

Let me guess, that would be in Zurich, right?

BUSHWICK-BILL the answer is very simple. Change the swiss francs directly into COP if you can (check with you bank). If not possible then you have to do two conversions.
