Reabren investigación a vicepresidente Francisco Santos.
BOGOTA (AP) — El Fiscal General Guillermo Mendoza afirmó el lunes que su despacho reabrió una investigación preliminar al vicepresidente Francisco Santos por supuestos nexos con paramilitares, y Santos advirtió sobre una utilización política del caso.

El presidente Álvaro Uribe en una breve nota oficial defendió a su vicepresidente y aseguró que era "un ciudadano de rectitud integral, cuyo trabajo ha sido en todo momento ejemplarizante". " El país conoce el liderazgo del vicepresidente en la defensa y promoción de los derechos humanos", agregó Uribe en su pronunciamiento difundido en un correo electrónico.

El fiscal Mendoza dijo que la reapertura de la investigación fue tomada por el vicefiscal, Fernando Pareja, al considerar que no se practicaron todas las pruebas e interrogatorios necesarios en la investigación al vicepresidente y al faltar esa pruebas, el caso no podía cerrarse, como ocurrió a fines del 2008.

"El vicefiscal revisó la investigación y tomó la decisión de continuarla. Lo que debe hacer...es practicar las pruebas que había ordenado", dijo Mendoza citado en un comunicado de la Fiscalía. No se dieron detalles de cuáles eran los testimonios o pruebas que debían ser recabados, aunque grupos no gubernamentales han dicho que debe profundizarse en confesiones de ex jefes del paramilitarismo, quienes inicialmente fueron los que mencionaron a Santos.

En un comunicado de cuatro puntos, el vicepresidente, el funcionario de mayor rango que en los últimos tiempos sea investigado por supuestos lazos con el paramilitarismo, se quejó de haber conocido la decisión por "filtraciones" a los medios y no directamente del ente investigador.

Santos además ratificó que "mi vida como periodista y como vicepresidente ha sido pública; durante ella no he sido defensor ni amigo de narcotraficantes, paramilitares, guerrilleros o corruptos".

"Reclamo una investigación pronta y eficaz que defina de una vez por todas sobre estas aseveraciones y que no se permita que sobre la base de calumnias se mantenga abierto un proceso para ser utilizado políticamente por quienes tienen más interés en desprestigiar al gobierno que en los derechos de las víctimas y del país a la verdad", agregó Santos en su pronunciamiento divulgado a los medios en un correo electrónico.

En octubre de 2008 un fiscal delegado ante la Corte Suprema de Justicia cerró la investigación al vicepresidente al asegurar que los contactos que tuvo Santos en los 90 con paramilitares fueron producto de su trabajo como periodista.

Of course he's not defending them, he and his oligarch cronies are the instigators and the responsible ones for their moles and mercenaries that have reek havoc and terror that reigns in Colombia . The Santos can not be touch, but Uribito is an other story, look what happen to Fujimori, the same fate awaits Uribito, cant wait to see the faces of the fools that took the hook line and sinker.......
