The last time that i had heard from him he was at the panama airport on 7/28/09. he did arrive in columbia ,and no one not even me knew anything about about his party in santa marta . His gf has not heard from him , we had left messages and he has not called. his gf had called the hotel and they had said that he did have reservations but did not show up. the wedding i think was supposed to be in santa marta. As far as who he was supposed to meet there again i did not know of this party that he was throwing for himself. you guys had seen the blog, i guess anyone was invited. his name is thomas lee williams age 53 reddish brown hair about 5'8" tall. Also it would be helpful to know from the sister if he is usually good about keeping in touch, or if he drops out of contact sometimes. Heck when I first got here (to MDE) on July 27th I forgot to email my people back home for almost a week. Then when I did I figured they would be a little miffed and have been worried but alas it appears they didn't even notice my lack of communication. *sigh*

the pic was taken in the US and if you read this NOWHERE does it say it was taken at HIS wedding....................

This should immediately be forwarded on to Colombian and US authorities. His bank accounts need to be evaluated for activity. The girl and the family need to be put under surveilance. My fear is he is dead or kidnapped by the family.

Especially if there was a planned wedding. It doesn’t wash the GF didn’t see him if he in fact arrived. She would have been at the airport waiting.

I agree, but to deny his voiced concerns about his Novia would be irresponsible as well. I am not saying they had anything to do with his dissapearance, but I am not ruling it out. I suspect the police rule out the GF and the family first as a matter of routine.

I believe his bank account activity or inactivity would tell you if he or someone was accessing the account since the 28th.

If it was inappropriate to post his remarks and my concerns then I would ask the mods to delete them. I do think it is relevant to LE.

My younger brother had said that on wed of last week he had called thomas cell phone and a female had picked it up speaking in spanish and my younger had kept asking if thomas was there and what he could understand was that she had said that there was no thomas and had hung up.When he tried calling the number back the phone was cut off. I had called the phone co.because i could not pull up the current info on my younger br. phone for thomas line. Now to say at that point his bill was over .$400.00 and this was roaming charges for calls that were made in columbia since 8/01/09. they could see the numbers that were called but we could not on our end and they said that they could not give us no info on numbers. that it will take 72 hrs to get it fixed to where we can see the current activity on the roaming part of the bill. I had told them the situation and even if the phone was in my younger brothers name they said that they could not give out that info.

The phone does not need GPS to locate it, if it is turned on and in range (even if it's roaming). The provider should be able to get a location, within a mile (which cell it's in) by determining which tower it is communicating with. This happens about once a second, even when no call is in progress. Some phones blink a light when communicating with the tower, between calls.

That may require police involvement, like call tracing in the U.S.

Maybe the officers can involve the FBI. They probably have easier access to the records they need to clarify what is going on.

There are to many problems here. If he did not fake his dissappearance Leaving his bags! ) or leave the airport and overdose then how long do you think an abducted man is kept around? Two weeks!! Who was responsible for picking him up, why were not the authorities at the airport immediately involved. Why did the girl not meet him. Maybe she did not have direct involvement, but others knew he had money and was arriving.

Scanlady, I am not trying to be hurtful, but the time for delay is long over. You need access to the records now. Report him as being kidnapped in Colombia.
You have nothing to lose by involving anyone you can.

Are there security cameras at the airport. They know the flight so they should be able to narrow down the time he would be there. Seems like if he left some luggage at the airport, this may be where something happened. Possibly see if he was escorted out by someone. I know some of the smaller airports like SM are pretty basic but what security does Barranquilla have? Cameras in luggage claim? Outside? If anything outside might even get a license plate.

i had a great experience with the u.s. state dept. missing person locator years ago. my middle daughter, iranian mother, who re married a swiss fellow, they took off to katmandu nepal where the fellow had landed a teaching job. my daughter was to be in the u.s. embassy (lincoln) school. well over six months went by and not a word. after some inquiry, i contacted the state dept which had my daughter on the phone to me within the day. so as much as we've down played our embassy, fbi and other agencies, those folks at the state dept came through for me. but granted, she was amongst the u.s. expat and embassy community, making their job easier. but who knows, maybe there's an intelligence outpost there and help is a call away. there's a shit load of intelligence personel in cartagena (if you can call them intelligent, they sit around and drink and brag about their assignments...ha ha) so someone in ctg must know some of these folk.

this is not a case of an abducted child, scanlady you will have to push much harder. You do not know who is was traveling with as in a case of parental child abduction. A child cannot give consent to be taken by one parent to another country, an adult can so you must first try to find evidentiary support to the claim that he did not disappear willingly before you will get immediate action as in a case involving a child.

This is not to downplay or underestimate the authorities, BUT they do have priorities and an adult male who is capable and of sound mind is not urgent to them.

I urge you, although very stressed, to act now and not wait until what they consider "sufficient time" has elapsed.

The more information you can gather regarding your brother will help. DIG. Even if you find something that is hard for you to believe or that does not fit his character, don't dismiss it. Everyone has things there "friends" know but their family does not.

ATMs also have video. I think the financial info is important now for tracking him and if the phone is still being used.

There is a USA embassy consular in Barranquilla. Contact them also. I don't have the phone number but he is at Calle 77B # 57-141, Centro Empresarial de las Americas. In the same building is AIG insurance and you can probably call them for the phone number to the portaria and ask the portaria for the consulars number. AIG insurance is, from the USA 57(int code) then 5(barranquilla city code) then their number 368-2224. Ask for the number of the portaria of the building, then call the portaria and ask for the USA embassy consulars number or office.
Also, when and if he got off the plane in Barranquilla he would have filed a baggage claim. Check on that. Also, First find out what day the girlfriend was expecting him. If the same day then the bachelor party was no secret. That would be strange if she knew of the party. If she says she thought he was coming a couple days after his actual arrival, then he planned the bachelor party without her knowing, which would likely be the case for anyone marrying a typical jealous colombian girl. Then at the airport he had to either have someone waiting there for him to take him to Santa Marta(like a friend taxi driver that he knew), or taken a Taxi which you get from the taxi booth in front of the baggage claim exit area after you walk outside. There are no other options. Shuttles and buses do not run from the airport. Only certain taxis from the same company work the airport or your friends can come park in the lot and wait for you. The taxis from the taxi company are usually(but not always) secure as they work the airport with authorization. Someone had to have seen him. One of those taxi drivers probably had taken him. Were any taxis from that company missing from that day? Is there a camera in the taxi loading area? Leaving Barranquilla airport you go through central of Barranquilla and also the worst area of Barranquilla on your way to Santa Marta. He never checked in to his Santa Marta hotel. He obviously never made it to Santa Marta, 1.5 hours exactly from Barranquilla airport. Something happened between the airport and the hotel. If the whole taxi is missing from the companies fleet then the taxi was robbed and hijacked. Ask the company directly, If no taxis are missing and none of the drivers have a robbery story then suspect one of the drivers that day. I have a few friends in Santa Marta, if you think they can help then email me directly and I'll put you in touch with them. But again, I don't think your search is in Santa Marta if he never made it to the hotel. Good Luck.

Mark1... there is always the chance he was induced to leave (voluntarily or involuntarily) with someone. This is all speculation at this point, but if he arrived and left luggage at the airport, you wonder if he was prompted to leave involuntarily.
Now that it’s been 2 weeks its unlikely he is sleeping it off somewhere after his bachelor party.

scum-i do not think it takes two weeks...I just called them two days ago when i found about this. So far...they can not find record of Thomas Lee Williams even ENTERING Panama in July or August. HOWEVER, the right hand of Martinelli, who has helped several times in the past on similar matters, successfully, is now on the case. It would be impossible for me to guarantee anything. Right now there is NO confirmation that he entered COLOMBIA either.

I can tell EVERYONE this...Thomas placed an ad to rent a room in his two bedroom apartment during this time period. Siad he planned on Returning. This point needs to pushed to officials. THE RULE IS THIS WHEN IT COMES TO MISSING ADULTS- they left willingly unless proven otherwise.

THOMAS originally said he was getting married in may and planned a trip then...what happened/

Thomas also had, at one time, a novia in Costa Rica whom he met through a tour called "spanish eyes" what happened then? if there is a pattern we should find out what is.

it did not take 2 wks to notice that he was missing, the FBI has confirmed that he did arrive in columbia. They also had said that it is normal for someone to take their suitcases to the area where they"Airport" can hold them if they are waiting on a ride. i did check with the bank that had issued the travelers checks, the FBI will have to get that info. They do not give that info to just anyone "it is called the privacy act." Thomas was supposed to go in May and I do not know about there,but here we are in a recession. Some of his work that he had was canceled out and until he had some work coming in 'it's called being low in the cash department" His girlfriend did not notify me until that following sunday and as soon as i knew i had notified the US State Department. I had found this forum by mistake when she had emailed me the post about his party in Santa Marta. As I had understood she did not know nothing about Santa Marta neither did I. I do not know how she had come across it,but asking her it is not easy to understand what she is saying. Even though she was writing it in English it did not make any sense I was very confused. I hope that had answered some of your questions.

Scanlady, Every and I mean every Colombian girl is usually very jealous and would not be happy about a bachelor party. Pretty much all Colombian men cheat and that's a main reason Colombian girls love USA guys. She would be very unhappy about him going to Santa Marta solo for a bachelor party. How did she know to find his blog and about the bachelor party? She said she knew nothing about the party but yet she sent you the blog! She is from Barranquilla? And he was going to Santa Marta without her, for a bachelor party? She said she didn't know but then she sent you the link to the blog? Some questions need to be answered here.

I will try again. i did get in touch with the congress office,and i had fax them a letter with info. they had told me that they will fax it to US DEPT and US Embassy in columbia . they said that when they fax this to them this will let them know that they are aware of the situation and that they will want to know what they are doing as far as trying to find him. and pedro they had called me. i do not travel and i really do not know the procedures as far as baggage. The bags all have id tags on them, it is a must when you travel. If all bags tags got somehow torn off then the airline would not open the bags looking for a number because just by the airline tags they can see the owners name and they go into a holding area if unclaimed. Plus even if they did open his bags i'm sure her number was not right there on top and listed as the contact person. the bags are registered to his name. they would not easily find her info i'm sure and certainly would not call her. I think the "bachelor party" was tentative. I think he had doubts and thats why no one knew about it.

The girlfriend should be under surveillance for sure.

I found some posts Tom made on other sites and I THINK that his plans were often conditional. He was moving to Costa Rica, then something happened, plans changed. was going to marry novia in may, plans changed. I don't think anything was paid for in Santa Marta or for the wedding. The wedding was going to be in San Andreas not to long ago as well. He was going to see how things went, hoping but not knowing for sure. What happened between leaving his home and now we do not know for sure. we can only hope for the best and try our best to help.

She and possibly others go to the airport for the real day he is arriving in anger with him unexpecting to see them, and for her wanting to see the expression on his face when she surprises him there. That she found out who he really is. And see what he has to say.
Them; Unexpectedly he sees her at the airport. He is really pissed off, and her even more so pissed off, upset, and angry. They get in the taxi together and everything hits the fan. Super big fight. Soon she realizes that the wedding has fallen apart. It's over. More embarassment from the family. No good gringo coming in to take advantage of her and the family. Dreams shattered by a selfish, lying, cheating, deceitful man who is taking advantage of her.

One more time. the girlfriend does not have his baggage. this party she nor me did not know about. she had emailed me and had told me that thomas told her that he would not be there until the 7/31/09 when he actually had left on the 28th. this is where the secret bachelor party comes in, have a good time for a couple of days then meet novia like he said in his thread. the authorities came accross this thread and had sent it to her and this is how she had found out and sent it to me. he was going to meet her at the airport on friday as if he had just arrived so she would not know about the bachelor party. i hope this clears things up for everyone. he did not check in at he hotel but did make reservations, this is what the authorities had found out so did she. so something had happen to him between the airport and santa marta

I see what happened now with the luggage. He didn’t want to drag the suitcases to Santa Marta and then drag them back to the airport. He left them at the airport and took a carry on. He planed to pick them up when he was going to meet his girlfriend and act like he just arrived. I would want to see if he had emails from people about the party. Maybe someone volunteered to pick him up at the airport. I think he may have had an account with Latin cupid or amigo.com as someone said he had a post a while back on another site and was seeing someone in Costa Rica. If so maybe he had arranged to meet another woman at the airport. If he has accounts with a dating service he would probably have junk emails from them or telling him someone has sent him a message to his account.

Although that’s assuming he isn’t using hotmail or yahoo or some other 3rd party email. Maybe you should conceder see if the FBI can take the computer. If you know what you are doing… you can see everything from the computer. Emails exc. Even if they have been deleted.
I know if it was me I would be seeing who has the expertise to investigate his hard drive in depth.

It seems everything went as planed up to the point he checked the bags at the airport. Since he never arrived at his destination, it seems logical to assume that whoever he got the ride with may have something to do with this. He was publicly inviting people from internet groups so if someone he invited was involved there may be an email trail.

I have great news, he had just called me and he said that he had gotten real sick w/blood poisoning and that he was in a small catholic clinic type hospital in sm. i will have that checked out.he could not give me the name but i told him i needed the name and the name of the doc. i told him that i had everybody out looking for him and that i will check it out. he is in santa marta and he said that his western union card has been locked up he cannot use it. he needs a place to stay until he can get home on monday. can anyone help. the western union card i did call that in to the american emabassy

no money was sent to him, someone will put him up for tonight and then tomorrow they will take him to bogota at the American Embassy. his card may have been blocked. I did give the American embassy the info on his card. i am going by what he has told me and i will have it checked out about the hospital. did call john, he had told me that my brother was very lucky to be alive and the only thing that he had was his passport. he had gotten up with the wrong people and now he has nothing. I agree with desi, hats off to you guys (Sapo, John, Reverend, Robbi etc.) This should be a learning curve here, would recommend to keep the BS/off topic talk out and the ones directly involved on the ground posting here.....I know Robbi, myself and Sapo knows to get immediately Gaula involved as well as playing the other side of the fence on the street level. We need to ask what if Tom did not call in...the worst case scenario...Gaula has agents in the know and most often can get inside info very quick in comparison to DAS, but again is good to work the streets if one needs to. Glad this turned out very well!!

Spoke to Thomas for a few minutes this morning, they were leaving for barranquilla today. He said that his girlfriend had arrived this morning to where he was at. I myself do not have any details. I do know that he will be leaving to come home tomorrow. I will be looking forward to the report myself. even after this i will still keep in touch on this forum.
