Seeing many rules change becoming more restrictive and for the negative in Colombia in regards to banking limiting more and more people to services I side with the locals in what they need to do. In regards to taxes, I believe Colombia will never stand up to other countries pressures....One positive note as someone stated not to long ago, at least "Colombia" and Panama are Republics.

Panama's response to IRS scare tactics
Posted article earlier in the week where the U.S. government claims to be putting IRS investigative office in Panama. Today a short article in La Prensa carries Panama's response.

The Office of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS, by its initials in English) step up efforts to find the whereabouts of 7 thousand 500 citizens of that country are evading taxes through bank accounts have not revealed.
To this end, the IRS has opened offices in Beijing, Sydney and Panama.
The secretary general of the Banking, Amauri Castillo, said he had not yet been officially informed of the presence of these authorities, but feels his work is more related to the Department of Revenue.
He warned that with respect to the banking institution will defend the laws that establish confidentiality.
"The confidentiality must be respected and any investigation of tax matters must comply with tax law and Panamanian bank," he stressed. Banking regulation safeguards the privacy and confidentiality of users of the system.
One of the comments;
"the careless actions of the US govt not regulating even a fraction of the current laws on the books. All of them looked the other way, now are invading other countries?" and even better comments linger on....Sad state of affairs for sure!

Choose Liberty, there is no such thing as equality. 0 funny, 1 helpful. |

jb_fastpitch says on Oct 19, 2009, 07:44: Yeah Colombia is in a much more dificult situation. They must really get nervous when Obama gives Chavez all those big wet smooches. When they look to the treatment Honduras is getting from Obama and his leftie State Department they know they cannot trust the US as an ally. Choose Liberty, there is no such thing as equality. 0 funny, 1 helpful. |

sloopskipper says on Oct 19, 2009, 18:52: Like the others, they will fold like a house of cards. They will not hold canal transits as hostage as there is too much income, as well as the tremendous debt to build the new locks. Plus, the banking system here, although not as bad as Colombia, is still a foken joke (so called secret, or not). Seems that some people think "everybody's outa step but me". 1 funny, 0 helpful. |

whitewidow says on Oct 20, 2009, 07:33: panama is the only country that has held the oecd at bay, effectively. there are politics at play here that i will not divulge, but panama is still one of the best places in the world to keep your money safe and private.
