New report ‘Climate of fear’ released today in the UK Houses of Commons

The British/Irish NGO ABColombia launches its new report ‘Climate of fear’ today in the Houses of Commons

"Colombian civil society is vibrant and active but many of its members carry out their work in defence of human rights in a climate of fear, in which they are stigmatized and are at constant risk of being subjected to baseless judicial proceedings, attacked, disappeared or killed."

Touche !!

As a Brit, I was asking myself who the British government think they are to criticise anyone else given their own despicable record regarding the ongoing erosion of civil liberties, installation of draconian laws by the back door, and total lack of respect for the very people who stupidly placed them into the position of power that they now enjoy .... and flaunt.

Will the House of Commons please shut the fuck up! You have no integrity, you have lost all respect, and no one is listening.

I´m sure that they could probably find more than that 20% in Westminster.
Some of the pubs near Parliament have removed cistern lids from their toilets to prevent coca being snorted from them. Who uses the pubs? The MP´s.

As an Anglo-American, I never thought that I would see the day that the British people would give up their guns. Government should always fear its people and not have the people fear the government. I'm afraid the same will happen to the US a little bit at a time just like in England. Can't let the ignorant masses have guns or defend themselves in the New World Order.

Britabroad, whilst I agree that civil liberties etc. are being eroded it the UK and it's shit, I don't think you can compare that to what's happening in Colombia.

When's the last time you heard of a trade unionist, journalist or human rights or social worker being killed in the UK, let alone by its own armed forces? No comparison- the UK, and any country with a better human rights record (i.e. most of the world) has a right to criticise Colombia's govt. for letting this shit happen.

SiV,

There might be some in Afghanistan that might disagree with Britain's human rights record. Lets not go back a few year further to Ireland, Northern Ireland, etc..., etc...The British are one of the greatest peoples to ever exist but their government sucks and I believe they will change it when they get angry enough.

I think most Afghans are more worried about the Taliban's human rights record . . .

Then they should have done something about it, they being the people of Afghanistan.

SIV,

I hear what you´re saying, and you´re right. I just feel that there are too many holier than thou arseholes in the UK who are quick to criticise others from the safety of their left wing controlled council offices, when their own country needs a few fingers pointing at it first.

I´m not punching the air for Colombia. I live here and know the failings and faults that are going on. But for the time being I´d prefer my motherland to shut the fuck up until it sorts its own problems out.
