did anybody tried to sent any goods ( Electronics, Computer and so on ) from the US to Colombia with AB Cargo ? don't even try it, I ordered a new Laptop 4 weeks ago over a Colombia relative who lives in Miami, he went to this AB Cargo company which said it is specialized for sending goods to Colombia LAM, bueno he paid $55 insurance and $60 shipping cost which is ok, until now I did not get my new Laptop after over 4 weeks, I called this company gave them the tracking number and answer was, OK the Laptop is in Cali in our office you can come and pick it up or wait a few weeks longer until we ship it to you to Medellin because it is not possible to ship it now because DIAN is checking all land and air freights for the correct documents and now AB Cargo has to wait until DIAN stops to check,
NEWER EVER TRY TO SENT ANYTHING WITH AB CARGO

miamimike says on Mar 15, 2007, 18:31: Hmmm Odd, I have used them a few times for door to door service and had no problems with them. AB has an Agent a block away and the prices are the same as ServiEntrega. They guaranteed 2-3 days service door to door and that is exactly what time frame it was, they delivered on their promise. For me anyway,,, "You can take the Banana Out of the Republic but you Cannot take the Republic Out Of The Banana" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Tom says on Mar 16, 2007, 13:28: then I'm woundering why they can't ship out my Laptop ? and why they say they have to wait until DIAN is not checking the carreteras ? hasta la vista 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

miamimike says on Mar 16, 2007, 13:49: The Same laws apply To ServiEntrega as they to AB so if customs were stopping AB they would also be stopping Servientraga to check for these Documents. I have heard of no complaints from my Colombian neighbors who actually ship weekly with both companies here in Miami. I also used Door to Door so I find your problem Odd also, could it be something about the way your Miami relative packed the Box or lacking documentation? miamimike says on Mar 17, 2007, 11:15: Tom,anything myself or my Neighbors send from Miami To Colombia is never packed in the Original Box nor does it have the original Price tag or papers enclosed with it, our items are always shipped thru as "used". This applies for anything we handcarry on the plane also-always no pricetags, original packaging or labeling that would make it appear New. A Bogota friend of mine comes here(miami) every 3-4 months and buys $2-$3,000 worth of used and new clothing and always removes the original packaging and any pricing. She has never had a problem in the Bogota Airport being asked to pay any taxes period. 3 years ago I brought a complete new desktop Dell Computer system(monitor, CPU, printer, keyboard 4 boxes in total)Customs never blinked an eye as I stated it was used, fact is they did not even ask me to open the boxes stacked high on a Baggage cart. mecca says on Mar 17, 2007, 11:23: Miami is right Yes, we do that. Make sure the boxes are changed, etc. If it looks like it's new, they mess with you, from what I hear.

jay1234 says on Mar 17, 2007, 13:15: mike I ask this not trying to be a wise ass or pick a fight. I am just curious. From what you explained it sounds like you skipped out on paying lawful Colombian taxes. It also sounds like you lied to customs. I am guessing both are illegal. You and I have had a few pretty lengthy discussions about illegal immigrants here, and one of your points has been that they are breaking the law and don't pay fair share of taxes. I can't stress enough that I am not attacking you or trying to provoke (nor am I saying what I would have done in the same situation, I have never purchased or transported any big ticket items outside the US). But do you see the inconsistency in your position? Did I miss something?

Tom says on Mar 17, 2007, 19:32: AB thanks for your help guys, the value of the Laptop is $1600 and I'm not sure if the uncle of my wife left it in the original Boxes neither if he played any tax for it ( I assume so ) but anyway the deal right now is that the Laptop is stock in Cali and AB said that the can do nothing only wait until DIAN is not stopping and checking any transportation or I need to fly to Cali to there office and pick it up even I offered that they can take the Laptop out of the Box and send it like it is to me, but answer was I) would loose the insurense.............sucks I need that one to work and next Monday its already 5 weeks ! hasta la vista 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

mecca says on Mar 17, 2007, 21:57: beaner If you're going down, take it with you. If it will not fit in your luggage, you can ship it down on the plane for about $.90 lb. You have to go to the airport and take a copy of your passport stamp into the country. It's easy if your spanish is good, if not I can put you in touch with a company to help. You can take around 1000 pounds down for that 90 cents / lb. It does not have to fit in your luggage.

miamimike says on Mar 17, 2007, 23:45: Jay Once an item is out of its Box and the price tags/Labels removed its technically used. Could you return it for a 100% refund? I doubt it! I fail to see how this post has anything to do with a double standard related to anything on Illegal Aliens here in the USA. I truly belive if the Colombian Govt thought we were beating them out of Tax they would charge us-make no mistake about that. They seem to be OK with it! Most Colombians do this also(remove box and tag) and have been doing it for years-they in fact wised me up to the trick LOL I will continue to it, thanks for your concern. If this is all the more you have time for Jay, you seriously need to get a life,,,LOL Yep, you missed something Jay,,, BTW, I don't have a federal tax stamp so I pay taxes on my product here in the USA, why should I pay double tax? You may want to lecture the 1000s of Colombians who cross the border at Cucuta into Venezuela to buy that cheap Gas and beat the Colombian Govt out of their Revenue... jay1234 says on Mar 18, 2007, 09:31: mike You should pay the double tax if it is lawfully imposed. That is what I was asking. You made it sound like in the first post that they were in the original boxes. I am pretty sure that if they were, you would be required to pay a tariff or tax. Even if not new, I think you may have to pay in some instances. That is what I am asking. Not about if everyone else is doing it (I agree they probably are). But the fact that you talk about it as a "trick" makes me think you are beating out a tax that the Colombian government has lawfully imposed. I think I know your feelings on paying those taxes.

miamimike says on Mar 18, 2007, 09:41: Thats for the Govt to decide Jay,,, I clearly stated they are removed from the Box(original)as are the tags/labels, thus the value is reduced,,,please re-read the OP,,, "You can take the Banana Out of the Republic but you Cannot take the Republic Out Of The Banana" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
|
jay1234 says on Mar 18, 2007, 09:45: Thanks That is all I was asking. Reading the OP, it was unclear. If you truly declared everything correctly, then I agree. If you lied about the items, then the government can't decide. It just seemed that you were talking about tricking the government.

miamimike says on Mar 18, 2007, 10:18: Tinto, go to any store in Miami with the Tags Detached and no original box, you will be hard pressed to find a store that will return the money. Best case scenario, you mat get a store credit. This Return policy has evolved greatly over the last few years due to all the scams pulled. The Cubanas(queens of miami scams) now don't remove a Tag from a say, New's Year Eve dress. Instead they tape or stitch it inside the dress, use it for the Holidays then reurn it, Tag Intact(they even wrap the tag in saran wrap to keep it new looking, lol),,even some of them report problems LOL "You can take the Banana Out of the Republic but you Cannot take the Republic Out Of The Banana" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

jay1234 says on Mar 18, 2007, 11:05: If you were the original purchaser why would you not have the box and receipt? If you took the items out of the box to avoid paying lawful taxes, or misreprested the nature of the items, you stole from the Colombian people.
