With respect to the Korean War, here is a quote I used in my thesis from David Bushnell's book, The Making of Modern Colombia:

"the Colombian batallion made one of the best combat records of any of the units participating, suffered a full quota of casualties, and won sincere praise of United Nations commanders."

It should also be noted that they were the only Latin American country to send troops.

g_s: Villegas Editores have put out several excellent books with pictures, but I am not sure if any are historical in nature. I do not know or own any history books w/ great photos. David Bushnell has written several good books about Colombian history. Frank Safford and Marco Palacios wrote "Colombia: Fragmented Land, Divided Society" (it is excellent). Marco Palacios wrote Between Legitamacy and Violence. Jenny Pearce wrote Colombia: Inside the Labyrinth. I'd purchase several history books, none that I have found are complete.

Los restos del poeta y su hermana están depositados en este mausoleo en Mármol ubicado en el cementerio central de Bogotá.

Elvira Silva, considerada como una de las mujeres más bellas de la ciudad, falleció de una neumonía el 6 de enero de 1892.

José Asunción se le uniría cuatro años después, el 24 de mayo de 1896, víctima de una muy precaria condición económica y afligido por la desaparición de Elvira.

Se dice que un día antes de su muerte, el poeta pidió al doctor Juan Evangelista Manrique le enseñara el sitio exacto en donde se ubicaba su corazón, (lugar en donde se encontraría la bala que acabó con su vida) para muchos, indicio claro de un suicidio.

Sin embargo, algunos biógrafos creen que se trató de un asesinato.

La Guerra de los Mil Días sería una respuesta tardía a los desmanes iniciados por la Regeneración implantada por Rafael Nuñez, según muchos un liberal arrepentido, pese a llegar al cargo impulsado por dicho partido.

Tras más de veinte años de hegemonía liberal, Nuñez propuso un retorno a los valores tradicionales bajo la bandera de "orden progreso y tradición"

Tales hechos provocaron un general descontento en las filas del propio liberalismo: Después de todo se negó a sus representantes a ocupar cargos cargos ejecutivos de cualquier nivel y su poder político se vió menguado en forma considerable.

Nuñez sería sucedido por Miguel Antonio Caro (quien antes fuese su vicepresidente), éste a su vez por Manuel Antonio Sanclemente y este último por el vicepresidente José Manuel Marroquín (Conservador).

La guerra se desató en octubre de 1899, por reaccionarios liberales en contra del entonces regimen conservador y se prolongó por espacio de tres años.

Grupos como el de la imagen se formaron a lo largo de todo el territorio nacional, particularmente en Santander, Tolima, partes de la Costa, Panamá y Cundinamarca.

1900- Damas de la alta sociedad en el hipódromo

Fueron los miembros de la Legión Británica y los diplomáticos ingleses quienes por primera vez introdujeron la cultura hípica en las clases altas colombianas, inicialmente en los accionistas del Jockey Club.

Este es un grupo de espectadoras en las tribunas del Hipódromo de la Magdalena, centro de reunión de la aristocracia bogotana.

En el lugar además de carreras de caballos, se llevaban a cabo partidas de cricket y exhibiciones ecuestres.

Se ubicaba en las inmediaciones de la actual carera 13 con calle 36, en donde luego se construiría la primera estación de gasolina, los edificios de Ecogas, Ecopetrol y la Embajada de Estados Unidos.

El primer auto mecánico que tránsitó por las calles bogotanas fue un Cadillac importado por Ernesto Duperly.

El vehículo llegó hasta la ciudad a lomo de mula. Una leyenda no comprobada cuenta que al llegar el segundo vehículo de este tipo en la ciudad ocurrió una increíble colisión entre ambos.

Ajusticiamiento de los autores materiales del fallido atentado contra el entonces presidente de Colombia, Rafael Reyes, llevado a cabo hacia las 11 AM del 10 de febrero en Bogotá.

Carlos Roberto González, Juan Ortiz, Fernando Aguilar y Marco Salgar sorprendieron a Reyes y su hija Sofía mientras realizaban un paseo en coche por Chapinero, en el sector conocido como Barro Colorado (actual Carrera Séptima con Calle 45).

Pese a arremeter varias veces contra ambos, todos los disparos resultaron fallidos.

Los cuatro hombres fueron apresados, días después, hasta el 8 de marzo siguiente, cuando se les impartió la condena a muerte, en el sitio exacto en donde el crimen se había fraguado.

La identidad de los autores intelectuales nunca se esclareció, aunque muchos señalaron al General Pedro León Acosta, quien por esos mismos días huyó del pais luciendo un disfraz, como el mayor implicado.

Contrario a lo que entonces ocurría, se daba relevancia a la marca "Bavaria", por encima de otros productos.

La Bavaria Pilsener se produjo con el mismo diseño de etiqueta desde los años diez hasta principios de los sesentas.

El diseño básico varió sutilmente. La etiqueta de 1912 es una de las mejor impresas y con más detalles.
