mining and logging firms are pushing farmers off the land by force or trickery

a very important story to follow, something that needs attention and action

"some companies pay armed groups to chase peasants from their land, while others trick their way into grabbing communal land titles"

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/oct/19/columbia-robber-barons-cho...

on my last visit to colombia i asked an aunt of mine about this happening and she claimed that "colombia would never allow it"... are colombianos blind and unaware of the situation or do they pretend not to know?

As I mentioned before. When I just visited El Choco, I saw what was great corruption occurring concerning the mining industry.
The government has forbid any person not approved by the government to mine for gold. All the local boats/dredges were shut down.
The boats operating were Canadian. The locals were panning for gold old fashion style. I have other fotos of them digging the river bed and filling dump trucks and sneaking off the sift the dirt out of site of authorities!

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

This has been going on for years, and like your aunt, not that many Colombians really know that it's going on . . .

I think the Colombian journalist Hollman Morris has done some reports on this, if you want to search Youtube.

Canadian mining companies are some of the sleaziest on the planet-absolutely no scruples they are the lowest of the low.

Apart from the Chinese that is, and the Russians.

fish, i guess it's because they're stark naked and everyone knows what they're about. the maple (fig) leaf makes them think that they're respectable.
