Johnny and his banking tips

CitiBank are absolutely retarded.

Opening a joint account with these jokers should be relatively easy.

You fill in the form online...they then ask you to send some documents in. Proof of residence and a certified copy of you and yours passport.

Done. I sit back and wait for the account to be opened.

4 weeks later....i'm still sitting. Hmm...best give them a call. 45 mins on the phone being passed from dept. to dept.....yet, not one of these useless indian call centre workers can explain why my account hasn't been opened.

Yesterday...I receive another letter for them saying "DearSir...we have provisionally accepted your application...please send in a) a certified copy of you and yours passport and b)proof of residence.

So...I call again to their Indian call center.....I get some clown saying it was refused because the origianl prrof of residence wasn't certified. I explain to him that this isn't necessary, he tries to explain that it is part of the banking code......I explain to him the banking code. He passes me on to his supervisor and he actually has some answers.

In the Proof of residence...there was only the first and last name of my wife. Despite that all her names are on the passport and account application.

Then they claimed that the certiied documents werent very clear. (A time dated stamp and a huge stamp saying I CERTIFY THAT THIS IS A TRUE COPY OF THE ORIGINAL with certifiers name address and signature)

In the end I hurl abuse at him and tell him to cancel the application. If they are that useless when they dont have my money, I couldn't begin to imagine how shit they are with my money.

So, what is the best international bank with branches in Medellin? CitiBank can fuck off. Timewasting cnuts.

Colombia will always be a 3rd world - sorry, "developing" - country until they get their heads out of their asses regarding banking.

How embarrassing that the banks in truly backward Cuba are more efficient and professional - and they do it without high speed Internet!

Cheers,
Terry

¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?

Me? How come? I think I probably said that Citi lets you draw pesos out in Colombia without charges and with a good rate at the ATM, also Citi lets you move cash between Colombia and the UK free of charge and online.

Apart from that, they are two completely different entities that only share the same carpets and uniforms. CT, I think Shortiao is referring to Citibank UK. I had none of that shit. I went to a branch gave them a cheque and said "open me an account please"

It really is a bank geared towards capital city types and not Scots

Dear Lord, why don't people realize that there is no good answer to questions like...

"Which ***** is the best?"

Every person will have a different experience and opinion of every bank. People love Bancolombia - they stole $1000 from me. I like Santander, lots of people complain about it. You cannot blame someone for their opinion just because you had a bad experience. And asking for opinions just brings in good and bad for everything.

Just because you have been to Colombia, that does NOT mean that you are anywhere near an expert on the place. Sorry. Truth hurts.

It was CitiBank UK I was attempting to open one with. I done it online....then had to deal with their inept Indian Call Centre.

You know, at one point when calling them, a girl told me I had dialled the wrong number and was to call in on another number.....she then gave me the number I had dialled.

I spoke with HSBC yesterday, they seemed much more helpful.
