How to bring my Colombian girlfriend to the U.S. for an extended period of time 6-12 months?

Hello there all,

I worked in Colombia for 6 months with a work assignment and I met my girlfriend, and after all the sappy romance and sweet kisses I still like her and want to get to know her better. I would like to bring her to the U.S. for an extended period of time to spend more time with her before we make any crazy commitment like one of us moving since I have a good job and she is still studying. The problem is that I hear it's almost impossible to come to the U.S. from Colombia. I do have several Colombian friends who are already doing it though. One through a nanny program and one through a family member who already has citizenship in the U.S. Although, thinking of it now I do know that she has an aunt living in Miami.

1. Does anyone know of an English language program where a Colombian student could come to the USA, sort of like study abroad.
2. Does anyone know of any other types of programs(work one example) that would make the process of getting a visa easier?
3. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Related, but modified inquiry: How long generally does it take to get a 'Student/Stufy' visa?

An Idea, ardhvc: Put $20K in a colombian bank account for her, and maybe she'll qualify for the tourist visa. but, that's just a guess.

How about stepping up to the plate and you going to her for an extended time? This would be a lot easier!

With the other visas, probably student would be the easiest and work IF you can get a company to sponsor her. Tourist would be the most difficult, but no matter WHAT make sure she has a stable life in Colombia with a lot of proof to the government that she has reason to return. And for God's sake she should not mention she has a boyfriend in the US when applying for ANY of these visas or they will surely be denied.

Fence231 is correct about his answer ,especially the part about her having a reason to return and if they find out she is visiting a boyfriend they will view it as a way to get around the K1 or K3 visa process..I have checked out this avenue myself

Don't even waste you time if there is a remote possibility you have this in mind..They have seen it all before..And this approach is on top of the list..

if you don't know her after 6 months you never will ,
why does she have to come to you ,if she is the one for you ,then you come here ,and hurry up ,
before you find she's some one else's girl friend.

i think its called the AuPair program, to be like a nanny in a family house. i knew 3 people who have done this program, 2 were for to live in france and 1 was to live in the USA. she has to find a host family and live and be a part of there family. sometimes it doesnt always workout that you'll be in the same city because depending on the host family who accepts you.....good luck

I, like Fence231, think a student visa is the most likely route.

All of your supporting characters need to be different. They need to have different strengths and weaknesses. Different 'looks'. Different personalities and ways of handling problems. Different "voices", vocabularies and speech rhythms. The audience should be able to instantly tell one from another, even if they are all dressed the same.

sad ,very sad little boy.....

So to cut to the meat of all the responses which I appreciate: Either an au pair program or a student visa seem like the best options. Whatever she does she should not say she has a bf here.

No one offered any response about haviing her aunt in Miami helping her with getting the visa. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I HAVE ALSO HEARD A COLOMBIAN CAN GET A US VISA THROUGH VENEZUELA and that expedites the process. Does anyone know about this???

Greg Yohn,

it sounds like you have a tragic story, why did you keep going back to Colombian women after your first bad experience? Good luck with the new marriage. Thanks for the comments and help.

for the same reason as you ,
you found a girl here and you want to take home ,

if you feel she is the one for you ,get on the plane ,65 bucks ,you come here and find out ,then you can start to set about getting her to the usa.

Obviously you think i should bring her here. You have to know all the details to understand my reasoning for this. There are a lot of factors. This is what I want, I'm sure about it. It would be best if she comes here first then I mvoe if things are still going well. Thanks for the help though. What about my original ?s....anybody????

best for who ,if she comes there ,
she don't know you ,she is leaving her family ,her life ,for what ......

you come here ,meet her family ,her friends ,live her life ,then worry about going back.....i tell you its better than getting her there to find she is off the following week......

The aunt is meaningless.

There is no way to get a visa through Venezuela.

Lying at the visa interview is the best way to get denied.

If she is working in Colombia - and can establish her reasons for coming back - then she can try for a tourist visa. I have met a few Colombians (all women) who came here on tourist visas and stayed! The tourist visa allows multiple entry as long as they don't stay past 6 months (I am not sure about this though). So she can definitely be here for a while, and then you guys can decide in that time what you want to do. If you want to marry, you can and perhaps she doesn't have to go back and you can file for AOS (but be careful with this step). Good Luck

She is 21 and studying in her 2nd year at her University. Lately we have been talking and we are looking for an English language institute in the U.S. in St. Louis, Missouri. Maybe something that offers x amt. of months programs(3 month programs, 6 month). I know in Colombia I saw a fair amount of Language Institutes. This is where I actually need to do some research here to try and find something. She does plan to go back and finish her school.
