Hogar TC to Work Status

Hello All,

Well, I have some questions about VISA paperwork & processing. I have a TC Hogar status and I am in the process of getting what I need from the employer; Work contract, Certificate of Goodwill of the company, Certificado de Proporcionalidad etc.

1# Do I have to to this in person like the TC Visa? Colombian Consulate Atlanta
2# Do I have to pay another fee? My TC renewal is 15 AUG 2010
3# Will my Cedula renewal date change?
4# Will the physical visa affixed to my passport change? i.e. Do I need to send passport to ATL?
5# With all correct the paperwork, how long does it take to process?
6# What do i have to pass DAS to register it within 15 days when it's completed?

I am in Barranquilla and dread paying to go to ATL if I don't have to, any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, it can be changed at the MRE in Bogota or at any consulate by anyone as long as you have given them notarized (Colombian) permission.

2# Do I have to pay another fee? My TC renewal is 15 AUG 2010
I didn't have to when I did it almost two years ago but when I was there amonth ago I notced a fee on their list for an occupation change. Not sure if that applies to these now or is for other types of visas.

3# Will my Cedula renewal date change?
Nope

4# Will the physical visa affixed to my passport change? i.e. Do I need to send passport to ATL?
Yes, the visa will be stamped with Annueled and a new visa will be printed that looks almost identical except now will show you new occupation and workplace.

5# With all correct the paperwork, how long does it take to process?
A couple of hours at the MRE.

6# What do i have to pass DAS to register it within 15 days when it's completed?
Don't understand. But yes, you have to go show it to das within 15 days. That's all.

Wow adrienne79 you're the BEST! A little worried about sending my passport in the mail. Should I use FedEx, DHL to Atlanta USA?

I meant to say "Pay DAS" to register the visa but I'm guessing it's the same fee from the first time I did it.

The job does not require a degree so should I get the employer to say that in the letter regarding the job description to avid the whole translated degree issue?

Also, what language should the employer put in the letter re: "transport back to country of residence" since I'm already a temp resident here; as a spouse.

Thanks again, real happy that I don't have to go anywhere to do this! I really, really appreciate your help.

Your welcome. First off though. please know I am not an expert. I am only sharing what I know from experience and what I say might have or could change depending who you talk to.

I would be worried about mailing the passport too. Do you not know anyone in Bogota that could do it for you? I have always gone and done my visa stuff myself but last time I was there, the woman at the info desk did tell me anyone could do it with the notarized letter.

You don't have to pay DAS anything. Just go show them the new visa and make sure they stamp it and sign it. Last time you paid them because you were getting a cedula out of it, this time you won't get a new cedula.

My occupation is "docente" and I didn't need the letter to say a degree is not necessary but rather just a letter explaining how qualified I am in my employers eyes. I have no idea what you need if your job is different than teaching.

You don't need anything about the "transport back to country" since you are a spouse. That is only for straight-up work visas.

Good luck!

I believe MRE in Bogotá can handle the entire matter and will place the correct paperwork in your current passport.
I don't think there is any need to leave the country to do this but I will defer to Adrienne79's knowledge on this matter since she has "walked the walk and talked the talk."

Thanks so much adrienne79 and you too Gator. It looks like I'll be able to run this by my contact at the Atlanta Consulate now to be certain. I also may not need to FedEx or DHL my passport since there's someone I trust going there shortly.

Glad others will be able to see this thread since many are dealing with the same kinds of issues. I'll post the outcome when it's done.
