Drugs in Cartagena

I am going to Cartagena for about two weeks. I am going there just to relax and do whatever, but I am interested in getting inebriated as well. How easy is it to get things, other then alcohol, (aka otc pharamaceuticals, coke, ex, bud, or anything else) without getting arrested or forced to give a large chunk of money for a bribe. Please spare me the witticisms about the harmful effects of drug use. I am trying to get messed up.

Remember that the police are on the lookout for Gringos who "want to get messed up". Colombian jails are not very pleasant and bribes might well not work. It is easier, maybe, than in the US but don't count on it.

"Flipscb ventured to Cartagena looking for the one thing on his mind - drugs. What he found instead was the inside of a filthy Colombian prison. He cried for his mother every night. After 2 long years, he returned to his depressing life in the USA and wished his life had not been so irreparably screwed up."

You were joking I am sure.

You must not live in Colombia becuase if you did you would know that while some narcotics are controlled personal possession of many recreational drugs is not criminalized. The police are going to give you a hard time if you are an asshole or they are, but there is a whole lot more leeway for a good guy in Colombia then you will ever see anymore from LE in the USA. It is not USA LE fault, they just cannot accept the liabilty of giving you much of a break. That still happens in Colombia and not always because of a bribe.

And nobody gets inebriated, thats just another myth.

And northe americans just say no to drugs!!!

It's alot easier to get drugs just about anywhere in the USA. This is where we have the llargest population of people stupid enough to use them. In Colombia it is seen as a product an sent to the US because people will pay good money for that trash and that's just business, and drugs are not widely used as in the USA. They really look down on people who actualy consume drugs in Colombia.

We "Americans" are brainwashed into thinking it's cool to distroy our brain cells with chemicals used in the production of cocaine as well as other drugs...but nobody ever said it best then machin1967..."I think the coca is more for the miserable people living here in the States who do not experience the pleasure of traveling for one reason or another."

i was in a strip club in manizales called Casa Show years ago. Typical bachelor party outing. All people at my table were Colombian, and though most of us spoke english, we were drinking and telling jokes in spanish.

Some gringos rolled in and sat at the table behind us. Well, as usual some scammer comes and sits with them and asks if they want any coke, guy tells them he can them three grams for 100 dollars.

He then pulls out three large boxes of Adams Chicle, and tells them that is pressed into chewing gum format. Dude buys 300 bucks worth.

After the guy leaves, I leaned over and informed them that they just bought 25 cents worth of gum for 300 bucks.

Most taxis know where to get it for you... but the neighbourhood they drive to may be sketchy. Or you can ask the staff in discotecas, or the guys selling gum outside.

If you want to consume, I recommend you don't stay in the El Laguito sector. There are roadblocks pretty much every night with searches (they are checking ID and looking for weapons, but also drugs).

flipscb: dont listen to the the long list of wankers on here that wouldn't have a clue. stay at one of the more fun hostels (search on a hostel site) you will find many like minded people who will be able to hoolk you up, if not the hostel/ bar workers themselves. Just dont be stupid and buy from ppl in the street or carry it around with you..... police searches or setups do happen.

life is amazing anymore. there are folks who tell you what to think, what to do, where to go,, what to eat, what to drink, who to hang out with, how to dress, how you should look. these folks must be such pros.....they've enough 'smartz' to tend to more than themself. they can even run the world. FUCK! ya don't even need to get outta bed anymore, just lay there, listen to these folks and you're good to go. you're life (their's) is just the way it should be, everyone will like you, you won't stand out in the crowd, as a matter of fact you'll be invisible, you won't even recognize yourself, cause now, you're them...who ever the fuck "them" is.

i guess that's why i made the 'black sheep' rating. i did what i wanted, went where i wanted, slept with whom i wanted, ate what i wanted, drank what i wanted and with whom i wanted, and saw one hell-of-a-lot of this world, had more than my share of ladies, have wonderful children some absolutely stellar friends and don't look like anyone i know.....and am not envious. i'm old, happy, kinda tired for packin in so much, but i got no one to blame for me. just me. no excuses to make and no one to answer to, other than GOD.

so, young man, when you go to ctg or where ever else and want to sample the 'wares' do so knowing full well the risk is yours, the outcome is yours and what you learn and experience is yours and that i, mr nobody, support you 100%. don't trust folks that you meet in the street. go to the park out in front of hotel santa clara, you'll meet many folks and you'll find what you want. you shouldn't pay more than 5.00 us for a gram. when you find it, buy ONE. later if you like it, try another.....don't load up on party favors. a gram or two is plenty to have in your possession. more than that is 'fools gold'. just remember, don't wander outside of the area i just mentioned until you know what you're doing and who you're dealing with. stay alert...stay alive and have a wonderful time.

Just remember that drugs in Colombia are more unadulterated when compared to drugs in other places/countries…. So be careful with how “messed up” you want to get and don’t OD. Then again a good advice is just do alcohol, it should do part of the trick.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

I have never seen anyone chew coca or drink coca tea in Colombia for that, some places in Peru and all of Bolivia is where to go. Coffee will give you a stronger buzz though.

As for illegal drugs, you have to be careful of Police in Cartagena but in your hotel room, you will be pretty safe. In the central part at night, the only people who speak any English are drug dealers.

People here are pretty sensitive about Colombia reputation about drugs. Colombians consume Marijuana and cocaine at about the same rate as the United States but in Cartagena, there is a lot more drug use.

No problem is so formidable that you can't walk away from it.

Azunoman - actually, in relatively small amounts, under Colombian law, using or possessing drugs is in fact LEGAL in Colombia. Personal dose.

And I agree with an above poster, who warned about the drugs being a little less "uncut." Be very cautious if tooting a little candy cain. It most likely will not cut down at all, and pretty damn pure compared to stuff sold in the US.

I don't use, never have, and never will. But I have no problem with somebody asking an honest question. I find the OP's goals distasteful and nothing I would want to be around or be a part of. But knock yourself out. I don't care. Not my business. And I will give information if it pertains to a question and I happen to know some information; whether I agree with what the asker wants to do or not personally.
