crazy shooting on bus in medellin

For the guard you can never win in that situation. You are always going to take the moment to make sure that they are not friendly, the criminals are not and will always have the upper hand. Alone...he was piece meal. Sad.

If the conjunto cerrado is properly "cerrado", the thieves can't win in that situation either. Once they shoot that first guard, there's no way out except through the front entrance. And so they are likely to get carried out in a body bag. Strange they don't mention what happened after the fact... maybe they did manage an escape.

that's why it just makes good sense to pack heat when you can esp. have one of the judge .410 bebes readily available. they aint gonna fok with you when you squeeze out a few .410 shotgun shells from that self defense Judge pistol The great thing about the judge also is that the shot disperses rapidly making it not so much a danger to others. Yeah might hurt the neighbors a little but if the thief gets in close say under 25' and he don't expect it well you just might have saved your life.

And it is sad about the guards but they should build up more layers of defense (think concrete barriers or otherwise, panels anything that protects them) and when the criminal gets beyond a certain point the guard can fire from a protected position. God-damn I should start up a Defensive Facilities Consultation business down there. All about layered defense baby. If they can shield stationary buildings from huge megaton truck bombs in Iraq and Afghan then they can do it down in CO!

Granted not everyone can afford it but 2-3 per large apartment building doable. These criminals kinda like the Al Quedas in that they go after the softer targets. I know some of the facilities down Medelling and CO already have some of this protective layer stuff.

Now who gonna win Game 3?

nine yes but the problem is the money and that people don't want to live in a fort. Unfortunantly the guard is cheap, expendable and can help you with your groceries.

But your right about layered defenses. Goes for everything I do, business or whatever. I put layers of people or clients between me and dissaster. Same stuff.

For the house I won't go outside but I drilled a hole into the concrete floor just in front of the door and put a steel rod into that sucker at night. Everyone wanted one over here so I built a bunch of hose puppies. Bar comes up and then shaped into a triangle, works great as the locks get kicked in easy enough. With this you have to take the door apart to get in. Not the first kick. Time to wake up from the first noise, the second kick you know what it is, roll over pull the slide back and wait in the dark. It won't be a friendly comming through the door so free to shoot happy.

Incoming Fire Has the Right of Way

Clint Smith, Director of Thunder Ranch, is part time Drill Instructor and part stand up comic. Here are a few of his observations on Tactics, firearms, self defense and life as we know it in the Civilized world.

"The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to a fight....I'd choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic Bomb instead."

"The two most important rules in a gunfight are: Always cheat and Always win."

"Every time I teach a class, I discover I don't know something."

"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'. If you're not loadin, you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters, don't put your flashlight in your back pocket... If you light yourself up, you'll look like an angel or the tooth fairy...and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something. It may be wrong, but do something."

"Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghilliesuit."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's available, until something else becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous... If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, shoot good."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet. You may be able to save yourself and your family."

"Thunder Ranch will be here as long as you'll have us or until someone makes us go away and either way it will be exciting."

More Excellent Gun Wisdom.......The purpose of fighting is to Win!

There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.

The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, He'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!

'The true Soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because He loves what is behind him.' -G. K. Chesterton

A people that values its privileges above its principles will soon lose both.

'Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.' ~ Thomas Jefferson

Colombians don't understand shit about guns. I left it out one day and a friend came over and picked it up like WOW! Cool! I was more scared of him in that 10 seconds than an entire division of angry gringo liver eating FARC. ;)

Other example a Colombians with a 38 they were empting each casing at a tiem with their finger tips and not doing too well. My freind asked for it and pushed back on the ejector. They were amazed....tough guys! jaja

John, I know some guys don't like them, but Glocks are not shit. They are virtually indestructable. I have disassembled mine, and thrown the frame as hard as I could against a tiled floor to demontrate their durability to people. It doesn't even scratch. The accuracy is almost wierd it is so good for the type of weapon that it is. Sure, they don't have the craftmanship that other premium quality weapons have, but they are what they are. Put it this way, if my life was in danger, I would be comforted if the gun I had to defend myself with was a Glock.

the sig is double action on the first round so out and about hammer down and ready to go on a trigger pull. This is what I like about the Sig but to each is own. It is also what I don't like about the sig and why I do not keep a round chambered while in the house. Pulling the trigger on a chambered round makes bullet go out end of barrel. Just don't want the cleaning lady to shoot her foot off being curious. So it is keep it close but a round not up the pipe. Verses keeping it well hidden and not easily accessed with a round chambered. Takes me all of a half second to chamber the round. If it s on my belt trust me a round is ready for delivery on a trigger pull.

You carry an illegal firearm in Medellin these days and you will most likely lose it and be arrested. In my neighborhood the police response to the increased shootings has been checkpoints throughout the neighborhood. We are talking every major thoroughway up until the discos close. This has brought security although if someone wants you bad enough I suspect they can still get you. I do not know if you can legally even carry one in Medellin. I am sure one of you or the other members knows what the staus of concealed weapons in Medellin is.

update to the story
