I was in the Colombian Consulate in London yesterday.
My wife and I ended up chatting with some girl....you know the type - miss little rich girl from Bogota.
Anyway...she was chatting away with my wife and she asks where she lives and the response is "Brighton, its like Cartagena"
Just to make sure, I stopped her and asked in English "Did you just say that Brighton is like Cartagena?"
"In what way? as far as I've seen, the similarities are they are both coastal cities".....she looks all hurt at this and says "well...its more the people...you know, the mentality"
I just laughed back and said "Interesting comparison"
Luckily...her number was called and the potentially awkward situation passed.
My missus did say when we left though..."you know, usually your sociopathic behaviour can be a bit embarrassing....but that was almost hilarious. the way you just pounced on what was obvious bullshit...congratulations"
Seriously though......people from Brighton are just like Costenos? have you ever heard such nonsense?

I find CTG slightly more bearable, the thought of living in Brighton gives me the creeps. Not many places you go where people dress fancy dress style , costumes for every day living , remember passing some bird dressed in some bright purple fairy costume wings included going shopping.............

The girl compared the town with Colombia's best town just to be friendly not to make a point. Similarly they all praise my Spanish, bless them, even if it's stretching the truth, who cares?
