A buddy of mine wants to teach in Colombia. He's got the right education and a CELTA, and he's a native English speaker w/ reasonably good Spanish as well. Evidently tho about 5 years ago he got popped for misdemeanor DUI. He was also convicted about 15 years ago of gambling while underage in Atlantic City (also a misdemeanor).
I assume the gambling thing won't cause him many problems but will the DUI hold up/prevent his work visa application? He doesn't seem to think it will but I've heard that Canada doesn't let DUI convicts into their country so I'm wondering if Colombia is like that.
I searched PBH but all I could find on the subject was threads/posts about tourist visas, not Colombian work visas and misdemeanors.
