7 days downtime

If you had a week downtime in Cambodia (you've already checked out all the historical aspects) where would you go to kick back, drink some bevies, people watch, eat, basically just relax and hang out!

Any suggestions? (This could include Vietnam as well)

it's a difficult one and this really depends upon who you are. sihanoukville is the obvious choice, you may find that 1 week in phnom penh gets aq bit boring but make sure you visit s21 there.

you may get tired of the sex tourism in sihanoukville and be careful, especially the beaches at night can be dangerous, although if you go to the underground bar you could arrange a trip to an island where you could stay surrounded by nothing but nature.......check the weather for anything related to sihanoukville, it can rain for days..weeks.

Vietnam has a lot of options, you could stay in saigon for a week 'people watching', phu qock, an island in the south has the most beautiful beaches there, and hoi an, a city in central vietnam is a city that you'll love.

Have you been to laos? It's beautiful.

ps....if you haven't seen it, watch "the killing fields" while you're there, most bars in Phnom Penh have it behind the counter, or at the lake.

Good books include, Henry Kamm's 'Cambodia', and Noam Chomsky's 'at war with asia'.

Thanks Borat! That's all great information. Way back before I booked my flight to Colombia for the holiday season, my plan was to fly to Korea, meet my cousin and we were going to hit either Vietnam or Cambodia for a couple weeks. Both places are still high on my travel list, so I'll keep all your information in mind.

I've NEVER been to SE Asia, yet :)

yes I didn't look at the dates, thought you were doing world tour or something. If at any other time you're headed that way and you need any info, let me know, I spent 5 years in SE Asia, you have a lot to look forward to, it's beautiful.
