The Ignore button ...

yesterday Peter posted "Paid section on PBH?" which included the phrase "The paid element should keep trolls out, it would be heavily moderated," ... this spawned a lot of discussion about trolls, undesirables, moderation, voting, rules and the ignore button ... MaBarker spoke to the lack of incentive for anyone to use the ignore feature and suggested a two-way ignore feature and/or "if 25 people had the same person on ignore, then that would be a signal for moderator action" ...

... upon reflection, i thought why not take it out of the moderators hands and let the "social software" take action ... if some critical mass (25...10...30...whatever #) of members put "fulano" on ignore then the ONLY user that would see fulano's posts/comments would be fulano ... members and non-member visitors would not be able to see fulano talking to himself ... i think this feature would give every member an incentive to use the ignore feature AND to avoid behavior which would cause them to be put on "ignore" ...

... thoughts...?

I always thought that this would be the best approach; but many others keep saying that the ignore button is for wusses.

It has gotten so this site is only readable by use of the ignore button. Anything that would discourage flaming and trolling and not requiring mod input, because the mods don't do a whole lot.

MaBarker says on Nov 4, 2009, 10:55:

I'm sure this is something that can be abused, like more people would have multiple accounts to access those that used the double ignore............but it's worth a try.

Each pbher would be allowed to create their own version of PBH by 'painting the picture' of who they want on their threads.

ranaquajo's suggestion is another way to remove someone without that person even knowing that they have been deleted.

MaBarker says on Nov 4, 2009, 12:04:

papi, i understand why you say the ignore button is for wusses. that's the reason for the double ignore. you are then empowered to 'remove' the person from the site with the double ignore. being that it empowers, it won't then be seen as a wuss action.

now i realize that a person could sign out of their account and then read the person who put them on ignore. this then will involve mod action.

but i think some good conversations can be had if the bulk of your friends put the troublemakers on double ignore.

A "GONG Button" would be more appropriate...for example, if a person like, say KY, gets enough GONG votes, then he stands in front of everyone and gets GONGed out of PBH.....works for me.

How about a "sicario button" paid for by the revenue from the paid section of the site. If someone gets 10 sicario votes then an IP hitman turns up on an IP motorbike at the user's IP address and fills them with IP bullets.

MC, a double ignore eliminates the pussy designation because you are now empowered to remove someone from the site as far as your own comments are concerned. It is not being a pussy to use the double ignore.

IGNORING A USER FOR THEIR COMMENTS IS NOT A SOLUTION, SOME TIMES YOU CAN'T NOTE WHY CONVERSATION TOPICS CHANGE SO FAST, AND ANOTHER USERS START TO WRITE THING ABOUT THEIR SENSES OR RESPECT, BUT YOU DON'T KNO WHY..... IS BECAUSE THIS USER HURT SENSES OF ANOTHER USERS.

IGNORING A DISCUSTING USER MAKE YOU LOOSE THE APRECIATION OF THE CONVERSATION IN DIFFERENT TOPICS. MAY BE YOU CAN FLAG A USER LIKE YOU FLAG A COMMENT.

OR IF THE USER HAVE AN CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FLAGED COMMENTS MODS SHOULD DO SOMETHING WITH THIS USER

I like the GONG button idea also, but what about a new forum within PBH called The Sandbox.

People could feel free to go and play in the sandbox if they want to throw sand or pull hair.

This way the genuine threads won't be compromised by delinquent hijackers who take a lot of fun from stirring up the less fortunate, mentally handicapped members of our PBH community to the point where they have a very public meltdown!

Some of you have indicated that you enjoy this type of behaviour because it is entertaining. The Sandbox would be the place to do it.
